High risk

I had thyroid cancer five years ago and now have no thyroid. So now I'm considered high risk pregnacy. I was recently at the dr and my blood pressure was elvated so the dr did my levels and they r way higher then they should be. Now they raised my medicine and r sending me to another dr that specializes in this. I'm so worried about mine and babies health now and everyone just keeps telling me not to worry. But really as a mom of three already how can I not worry. I keep reading all this bad stuff on line that can happen and I'm freaking out. Any moms out there going threw the same thing? I could really you some support thanks

Re: High risk

  • I cannot relate to your specific situation, but there are many of us (myself included) high risk mommas on here that you'll find. I go to a MFM office every 4 weeks for ultrasounds, cervical checks, etc. I have a mullerian duct anomaly resulting in duplication of the reproductive tract- two uterus, 2 cervix, vagina divided by a septum) and am at risk for miscarriage, poor fetal growth, and preterm labor. I have also had test results from my 1st tri screen that show I am at increased risk for carrying a trisomy 18 baby, and even if it all checks out, they said it's likely that I have a placental problem that could result in improper nutrition or growth restriction for the baby. So I would have likely wound up there anyway for testing! All that to say, you're not alone, and it's okay to be scared. But just remember that getting sent to a specialist is the BEST thing that could happen and honestly has given me so much peace of mind. I would be a lot more scared if your OB didn't send you out and just insisted she/he could handle this. This is what the specialists DO every single day and they will have a plan of action for your pregnancy to give you the best shot of healthy and happy mom and baby. Best wishes!

  • I can not relate myself but last year my friend and I were pregnant at the same time and she was going thru the exact same thing. She had thyroid issues don't know the specifics but she ended up having to have it removed. This all happened prior to her getting pregnant. Once she found out she was expecting she was frequently at the doctors to monitor and change she medication dose. She said it was common to need adjusting while pregnant because of all the hormones. Fast forward 9 months she now has a happy and healthy 7 month old baby girl!! Hang in there lady
  • Not going through the same thing, but also high risk. I see my OB every three weeks and have an ultrasound with my MFM every two weeks. I'm reassured by the fact that if there is something wrong, it will be discovered early.

    Good luck!

I'm also high risk, bit for a different reason. My son was born prematurely and this time, I had an SCH and blood work indicates that my placenta may be insufficient. We go every 2 weeks for cervix checks and ultrasounds. It is very stressful but I just try and think positive. We should start a thread for high risk mommas so we can commiserate! You are not alone! I am sending positive thoughts your way!
