My skin is quite dry and I'm trying to avoid stretch marks...if it happens it happens but just want some opinions on body lotions/butters that you guys have tried or have heard about !
I'm using bio oil, not sure if that is called the same thing in America, but to be honest, I think there is not a lot you can do for stretch mark if you are prone to them if that why you are asking. EXCEPT, after the baby is born you can get laser, if they really bother you! Like Kim K
Agree that stretch marks run in the family. My sister use bio oil though and boy did she have one nicely moisturized, slick, tummy! I didn't get stretch marks for baby#1 but will probably still use the bio oil this time around.
I also used Bio oil with my first. No stretch marks! Although, it is definitely hereditary. If you're going to get them, you'll get them no matter what you do. I used the Bio oil because it helped with the dry skin and itching, and it smells really good!
I have been using a stretch mark cream from It Works. I haven't had any but I saw a before & after from a friend that was incredible, so I thought I better start.
I use a combo of bio oil and then mama mio tummy rub on top and did throughout my whole first pregnancy. I did not have stretch marks but I have heard that it is mostly genetics.
TTC#1 May 2009- July 2010 on our own with no luck
Started with RE in August 2010, dx with unexplained IF and then finally our 3rd IUI cycle using Follistim and Trigger resulted in our wonderful little man. Born 12/2/11
TTC#2 Never really prevented, but were careful early on as Dr. reccomended
Surprise BFP 12/16/13, started progesterone immediately as first numbers came back low, but betas were good. Progesterone wasnt enough. Natural MC 12/24/13.
A friend said that anytime she felt itchy or was in the shower, she used a dry skin brush and she doesn't have stretch marks. It's supposed to help with circulation. I'm giving it a shot.
Bio oil. I only put it on my stomach last time and it's the only place I DIDNT get stretch marks. (Which is also the part of my body that stretched the most). Seriously, I got them on my thighs, and even my freaking calves.
Coincidence or not I'm using it again this time. I'm just slathering that shit everywhere.
Thyme maternity is a clothing store in my city (not entirely sure if they are Canadian or all over) but they've got a whole collection. I'm using the stretch mark cream now and it is helping a bit. I don't think anything will be perfect but I like that it doesn't have a strong door and that I can con SO into putting it on everyday
My aunt had five boys including a set of twins, she swears by Palmers coco butter salve. She said she would literally slick it on thick and go through a container a week (boobs, tummy, butt, inner thighs) and she doesn't have a single stretch mark!! I've been using that and haven't had any itchiness or anything. Im not using as much as she did bc it's expensive...but I can tell it really hydrates my skin. The waxy feeling is a bit uncomfortable, and my clothes stick to it, but the smell is great and it's worth it for no stretch marks! Good luck!!
Genetics. But I still use Honest Co after shower and Mama Mio at night. Both are non toxic and baby safe. Used mama mio with my twins and no stretch marks. Gained almost 50 lbs from starting weight of 106 or something. Lots of stretching.
Also genetics prob rule but it's important to stay hydrated inside (water and good fats) and outside (some sort or cream). I think it's like how wrinkles are genetic but you can totally make things worse if you don't take care of yourself and your skin.
With my genes I know that stretch marks are inevitable, but I'm trying to prevent them anyways! I've been using cocoa butter for awhile, but I recently started trying coconut oil. They sell it at the grocery store and it's a great moisturizer-others have said it helps prevent or lessen stretch marks. It's also organic, which can't be bad. Another coconut oil use: my mom and DH have started using it for "oil pulling" (swishing with it instead of mouthwash). In just a week, DH's teeth are WHITE! So even if it doesn't work for my stretch marks, at least it's good for something else around the house :-)
I don't have one to recommend, but I can tell you to steer clear of Palmers Tummy Butter if you have sensitive skin. It gave me a horrible allergic reaction all over my stomach that has still not healed even though I stopped using it 2 weeks ago. My doctor said that it is pretty common for people to have allergic reactions to cocoa butter and to only use vasaline until it healed.
I swear by utter butter. It's fairly cheap and comes in a big tub. I use it on dry skin, cracked nipples, my kids, my husbands feet...(it worked wonders on those flaky things lol!) it won't get rid of stretch marks though.
Mama bee! And almond oil when I get out of the shower. But honestly I haven't used anything with this pregnancy and so far I haven't needed it. Genetics play a big part.

I got Derma-E brand stretch mark cream from Whole Foods. It's more pricey than generic but the ingredients are worth it. Natural oils including argan, coconut, shae, and cocoa plus vitamin E. If anything my skin feels great. I get stretch marks so I'm already mentally preparing, but I've never preemptively tried to control it before. Maybe it'll help with the elasticity of the skin. I also figure using it on my boobs (nipples) will be helpful for breastfeeding in the future.

Yes! This is a great point!
All of this. Additionally, I drink coconut milk daily right now (in smoothies) because of the saturated fat (and extra calcium). I know a lot of people are afraid of saturated fat, but our cellular membranes are composed of it. It stands to reason, at least for me, that maintaining the integrity of those membranes during this time would be pretty important. I also have a nalgene bottle that I fill up with water all day long. I use palmers cocoa butter and vitamin e oil too. That, and not gaining excessive weight. In the end though, you could do everything "right" and still end up with stretch marks.
Love bio oil and also rose hips oil. I think an oil is best for the dry itchy feeling, especially with winter babies! I got no stretch marks with baby #1 but I did with baby #2 Then again, baby #2 was 10 pounds and I'm a small person so my belly was stretched to the max lol. Luckily, baby #2 is 18 months and my stretch marks are hardly noticeable anymore, and they looked SCARY at the end of my pregnancy, so if you do get them, remember they do fade!
I used Palmers Cocoa Butter with my first pregnancy, and I'm using it again. No stretch marks last time, and my skin snapped back to normal after too - no mama belly, no saggy skin! I DO think it's mostly hereditary, drinking lots of water, eating well, and taking care of yourself, but every little bit of effort helps
I bought the stretch mark cream from It Works as well. More so because my cousin's wife was selling it and I wanted to support her. I haven't used it because I haven't started to show too much yet. I figured I would save it until I got a little bigger and my skin really started stretching! My mom never had stretch marks so my fingers are crossed!
Mama bee by burts bees. Used it with ds and had no stretch marks and am using it again because I liked it so much. Also, it doesn't have any of the strong perfume smells like some of the others I had tried.
I use coconut oil. Its very moisturizing and should help with stretch marks. This is my first and I am 17 weeks and haven't had any yet! Hopefully I won't!
I know several people who have just used coconut oil or/and almond oil and have been so lucky and bot got a single baby tummy stretch mark! So I'm going to be giving that a go. x
Re: Are there any body butters or body lotions you ould recommend for the baby bump?
