Has anyone tried Fre or Ariel wine (non alcoholic)?

I recently read that there is such thing as alcohol free vino! I don't really miss alcohol but wanted to know if anyone has tried it. I was just curious if it actually tastes like wine or grape juice, lol! Going to a family reunion in 2 weeks and wanted to know if it's something I should spend the $25 on...just to have something to sip on other than water/juice! Also, if it's worth it, it'll be good to know for when the holidays roll around ;)

I don't have any experience drinking any of that, but I know some of the nonalcoholic stuff still contains some alcohol. (Maybe as low as .05% - which is probably fine considering many women drink glasses of wine during their pregnancies.) But I figured you should still check the front and back of the bottle.

  • I think even if it has trace amounts, it is fine. I drink Kombucha pretty regularly and it naturally has 0.5% (and under) alcohol in it and my Dr. said that is totally fine.

I have been missing alcohol but I have been drinking club soda with grapefruit and lime in it, to curb my fancy drink cravings. I dont know if I could do a faux wine. I feel like it would make me miss the real deal even more. lol.

  • @Lljbean Fellow kombucha drinker here! That was actually one of the first things I Googled when I got my BFP... Need my kombucha fix regularly!

@nanamp Oh yeah, I'll def check the bottles and it would literally be less than a handful of times that I would actually drink it between now and January...just curious about it since I never knew this stuff actually existed! Thanks for your input

@Lljbean Good to know about Kambucha! By the way I recently tried some of those drinks, what's the best one...flavor wise, I've bought them at whole foods. If I end up trying the faux wine I'll let ya know if it's worth it
  • A friend who loves wine said Fre "sucked less" than other non-alcoholic wine she tried. Maybe that's a recommendation for Fre?

I have a cousin who drinks the fre wine and brut all the time.. I tried a red fre and it tasted like grape juice. It was so nasty. And now when I think about it, see the bottle or see anything "red wine" related I feel nauseous. I had a wine phone case that had liquid in it and I had to change my case cause it made me sick!

@ss456 lol, I guess that is a compliment!
@maeg66 oh no! That's terrible...I'm so glad I don't miss drinking! I've just been wondering about this stuff... Thanks for the input mommas :)

The best one, flavor wise, all depends on your singular tastes. I work at a health bar and our biggest seller was the Trilogy flavor from GT's. It's a raspberry, lemon, and ginger flavor. It's good, but my favorite GT's is the Green Chia, which I believe is blue-green algae. GT's definitely isn't my favorite company, but they're probably the most recognized. I prefer the Tapuat Brewing Co. kombucha's. Lemuria is my all-time favorite. But I don't know how widespread they are. I can find them easily, because they're from my home state. I suggest just trying a few in flavors you already like and then branching out later to discover the glory of sipping on algae!

@Lljbean Wow, the trilogy one you mentioned sounds delish! Yeah, I hear Kambucha is so good for you that I'll def try some more flavors, thanks!

I get mine from a local place in Oregon called Townsend Tea Brew Dr. but I love ginger/lemon flavors best. I drink one that is a lemon/ginger/cayenne and one that is a spiced apple. So, good.

  • My friend bought me a bottle of the fre champagne and I really liked it! Then I bought the fre Merlot which is also really good, I only paid 5.99 for the bottle though at abc liquor or total wine :)
  • The grocery store near me sells Fre.  The Zinfandel and Red Blend flavors are the closest to tasting like actual wine. I pour a glass in my pretty wine glasses in the evenings so I feel like I'm missing out less. Not as good as real wine, but better than Welch's sparkling grape juice!

@terese0913 That's good to know that they carry it at ABC bc I saw it on amazon for $25!
@MarySMP Thanks for the advice...I'm kinda looking forward to trying it now

I've had a few different kinds of Fre (not all st one time lol). The Chardonnay, Merlot, Red Blend, and Sparkling. It's definitely not real wine, but infinitely better than sparkling grape juice or apple cider.

@RunnerMeg Lol, even if you tried em all at once at least you wouldn't have a headache the next morning
  • The Fre red wine is not bad at all. My mom drinks it all the time and I had it with her at a family party a few weeks ago. Tastes a bit like grape juice with an extra little dry kick.
  • I'm kind of a wino when not knocked up, so I tried this during my last pregnancy. I didn't like them - just tasted clearly fake. The champagne one is good for when you are missing mimosas, but that's it IMO.

To me, NA beer is better - tastes more like the real thing, more similar experience. To replace my nightly glass of wine, though: pomegranate juice and sparkling water. Almost like a sparkling red... Almost.

@SamAdams2006 I found some Fre at my local grocery store today, got the red blend. I'll prob wait till fri so it feels more like a "drink"! Thanks for the input :)
@mkatefin303 I saw the champagne Fre and I'll prob wait till thanksgiving to give that a try it...thanks for letting me know!
Thanks to all the moms out there with your advice!!!

We went on a wine tour at some local vineyards (pre-pregnancy, obviously) and one of them had a "sparkling grape juice" that was ridiculously good. I would be inclined to go that route over fake wine...
  • I've tried the Fre merlot, chardonnay and sparking wine.  Obviously none of them *really* taste like wine, but it's a nice treat from club soda w/juice.  I keep it as a treat maybe once every few months, just to mix it up.  The chardonnay is the closest to tasting like wine, in my opinion.

thanks everyone for your input, bought some and might check it out this wknd :)

  • I tried some for the first time last night. I had the white zinfandel. Tastes more like a strawberry-white grape juice, but still pretty good. I've had actual wines that were way worse!
