HypnoBirthing

So, I've been looking into hypnobirthing as my natural birth plans for delivering my little Ursula Francis. It's all about positivity and avoiding fear bc our bodies naturally know what to do. Has anyone else used this method before or is anyone else also thinking about using it? There aren't any centers around my area for classes so I'm relying on books and cds to help me. Any tips? Please only positive feedback. Thanks in advance!

Re: HypnoBirthing

  • I just did a quick board search and there appears to be a couple of different threads on this topic, including one from earlier this month. Perhaps check those out!

  • Yes I'm looking into this as well. I'm reading the book bc their aren't any classes near me either. I'm also looking into a doula. I found one that has first hand experience with hypnobirthing.
  • I used it with DD1 and it was such a peaceful labor. Dd2 was induced and I couldn't manage the painful contractions since they were very different from my first labor. Hoping to hypno again. I don't think classes are necessary. The info is the exact same in the books :)
  • I'm reading the book and trying to listen to the cds but having a hard time with those so far. They make me fall asleep, haha. Think I'm going to order the hypnobabies home studies kit. I've heard a lot of positive things about it.
  • I ordered the book and it should be here Wednesday. I'm hoping it's as good as the reviews say. I'm a FTM and hoping for a med-free natural birth. My birth plan includes essential oils and I'm hoping this book will also have good tips and methods.
  • @MariahOBrien thanks! I'll have to try and find those....@beanie1977 cool! I can't wait to hear what you learn!.....@Vanessa226 I don't think I even have an option for a doula so I'm counting on my mom and my bf to help me get through it. And pray that my ob doesn't think I'm insane....... @twogirlsandagreen I'm glad to hear a success story and I hope it all goes according to plan with this one!......@SandraD1119 in the book I'm reading it actually says that falling asleep isn't necessarily a bad thing. In fact you're just so relaxed that you think you've fallen asleep, but your body is still doing what you practice. So, maybe it's working!.....@mlobrummond I'm also a ftm. What are the essential oils for? Is it meant to be soothing?
  • They actually have a hypnobirthing class at the Babys R Us near us. I might look there. They are free. I'm going to go. It's only 1 class, not a series, but any help is good help in my book! :) I am a FTM too and I honestly have no idea what to expect for labor of course I haven't been there myself. I'm trying to use hypnobirthing to learn about the process and try and control my emotions and rely on my body. I'm not sure if I'll end up getting medical assistance, but at this point, I'm not against it. I want to experience it before I judge completely. Of course, I would prefer not to, but you never know what's going to happen. I absolutely wish you luck and I hope hypnobirthing helps you enjoy your delivery as much as possible! That's what I'm hoping for myself.
  • My husband is a hypnotherapist and when you go into hypnosis you are not asleep. He's put me under several times for different things. He can always pull me out whenever he wants. I never remember what he says but it works. I've used hypnotherapy for birth (worked great) and weight loss (I lost 60 lbs). I also used it to stop eating sugar and I haven't had it in over 2 1/2 years.
  • @mightyk23 I use my oils for just about everything. Each one has a different reason. Lavender, Serenity, Balance and a couple more I myself use for relaxation and calming.
  • @mlobrummond are they for rubbing on your skin or just for an aromatherapy type deal?

Both/either depending. I use them topically, internally, or aromatically. I only trust dōTERRA myself and if I remember right you can search on the website for a wellness advocate near you. I technically am a wellness advocate but I only do it for myself and my family and am not in it for the business aspect, only for my family's wellness. :) if you really are interested, there is a good book by Stephanie Fritz on Amazon. I think it has something like "birth, babies..." In the title.
  • @keybird79 can I borrow him for my delivery? :) are there any resources he can recommend?
  • I did the Hypnobabies Homestudy course with two births and it was awesome.  I could talk and walk and was fully aware of what was going on but I did not feel any pain.
