Such pain!! Checked my cervix!

holy crap.... First time my dr checked and I was Also only 1 cm dilated with 4 more days till my due date. She first used this spoon looking thing and then stuck her fingers up as high as she could go and pressed down on my stomach at the top. I was practically screaming. My gd. And what scares me the most is because I told myself I'm getting a epidural I haven't really thought so much into the pain....

But now I'm terrfied. It felt sooo painful. And I am officially freaking out that this is going to happen...

Anybody else scared as hell?

I've had two cervical and both hurt like hell. My doctor hates doing them because she knows how bad they hurt- so you're not alone in your pain. As for the rest, I'm 100% team epidural. Just keep focused on that while you work through the labor leading up to it!

I have a high cervix, so none of my OB's can reach, which means they take longer and push even harder. I actually think labor will be more bearable because it's pain your body is prepared for, rather than pain caused by someone else. Honestly, I'm hoping to go into labor before my next appt just to reduce the number of cervical checks I'll have to have! Hang in there!

Oh man! Now I'm freaked out!

( Haven't had a check yet, doc only does them by request, but not sure if I will be getting one @ my 40 week appt. tomorrow, request or not

My doctor did a quick sweep as he called it at 38 weeks, I was only dilated to a 1 and 50% effaced, it was awful! I had no idea it was going to be that painful. At 39 weeks I agreed to do a full membrane scrape as I am desperately waiting to meet my son. I progressed a little and was dilated to 2 and 75% effaced and the pain was not nearly as bad this time. I was either more mentally prepared or the fact that I was dilated a little more and my cervix is open more could be why. I am now 39 weeks and 3 days, still no baby. I believe the scrape helped though because I lost my plug the day after. I never herd of the spoon thing that you're talking about, that sounds scary lol. Our bodies were made for this though, we got this ladies!!

The checks really haven't bothered me at all and i didn't find them painful, the sweep had some discomfort but nothing I couldn't breath through. Try to relax and breathe deep next time, tensing up can definatly make things more painful!

I have a low pain tolerance and was terrified of being checked by my doctor. Also my cervix is high and they have to reach waaay up there. For me though it was uncomfortable but not actually painful. I think it just depends on who examines you. And once you the epidural in the hospital you won't feel them check you for dilation

The checks were the worse part for me! Baby's head was super low so they had to really reach around in there. Before the started pitocin my Dr checked me and I was almost in tears. So he decided to just go ahead and break my water. I got the epidural about 2 hours after that and labor was super easy. I felt nothing till I felt pressure and said I HAD to push. I pushed for 30 minutes and she was out. So epidural was the way to go and the worse pain I felt were the horrible checks they did!

Hm... Labor pain is somehow different. Cervical checks are all of a sudden horrible pain. But in labor, by the time you get to that pain (without epidural) your in a zone. So if you plan on the epidural, you will get it as soon as possible and never feel that kind of pain... Other then when they check your cervix. It's also less painful during labor. I don't know why but it is.

My cervix checks never hurt. Just a little pressure like you would feel during a Pap smear, but nothing bad.

It's weird, the first two cervical checks I had hurt, but the third one I had last week was only mildly uncomfortable. Performed by 3 different doctors...not sure how much that had to do with it.

My doctor told me the more more closed and hard your cervix is, the more it will hurt. As a result they tend to get less painful as you advance.... sadly I never advance, so they just keep hurting.

Cervix checks hurt but my contractions once they were 3 min apart was the worst pain ever. My threshold for pain Is usually high but I desperately needed epidural. By the time I got it contractions were less than 2min apart but i was still in pain in between them. It was like a never ending cervix check while having your worst period cramp! All to say I'd rather have my cervix checked than be in active labor

I found he cervical checks to just be uncomfortable, but not painful. Don't be afraid of an epidural if you get to that point in your labor. I had been so sure I could just tough it out, maybe take some pain medicine. This didn't work out for me since my labor was just so long I was becoming absolutely exhausted with the intense contractions. I finally gave in and got the epidural and was so glad I did. If you get one, make sure you are communicating with that anesthesiologist everything you are feeling so they know they have hit the right spot.
