8 week sleeps alot!

Is it bad? We wake up at 5, eat and go back to sleep. Wakes up at 9, eats andf goes back to sleep. wakes up at 12, stays up a couple of hours back to sleep at 3. Wakes up a 5 back to sleep at 7, up from 9-12 when he goes to sleep and sleeps the whole night.

I have tried waking him up, keeping him awake, etc. It doesn't help or work. He either gets super cranky and goes to sleep anyways(literally as we are stimulating him every way possible), or he just goes to sleep and stays asleep. I know babies sleep alot, but according to his age he should be staying up a lot more by now. What say you?

Re: 8 week sleeps alot!

  • How long is he eating for? While he eats that counts as awake time (as long as he's not sleeping while feeding). Under 3 months babies should really only be up 45 minutes - 1.5 hours at a time. So depending on how long he nurses for it might not be that unheard of. Some babies like to sleep more than others. If you're concerned you should speak to your pediatrician. Total awake hours for under 3 months is only about 8 hours in a 24 hour period. So if your LO is doing that then you're right on track.

  • That sounds like our schedule lately! And our little guy is 9 weeks!
  • I have a midwife that visits me fortnightly and I asked her this question and she said its fine and my baby is 10 weeks most don't want to be awake for longer than 2 hours and get grumpy but all babies are different don't worry it's normal. Also if they they have good sleep in day they are apparently supposed to have better night time sleeps
