2nd Trimester

No weight gain yet

So, I should start this off by saying I am no skinny mini, so please don't assume I'm bragging. I didn't gain any weight in the first trimester, I was sick often and had no appetite. Now I'm a week into my second and still no weight gain. I read that women who are overweight should gain less, I just am not sure I fall in that category as I am 5'5 and 150lbs. My sister is a toothpick and 3 weeks ahead of me and has put on 6 lbs. Should I be addressing this problem?

Re: No weight gain yet

  • I'm not a very big person and I haven't gained any weight and am at 20 weeks.. I've been a bit worried about it. But yesterday I had my ultrasound and everything is just fine! Growing just as it should! Worry less.. the Dr will tell you if it's a legitimate scare.

  • Hi I'm 18 weeks, 5'6" and 137lb. I'm 2 lb lighter than I was pre-pregnancy. I have no idea how as I am eating the same and none of my clothes fit me! I'm presuming the baby's just using up some of my excess and I'm sure I'll be piling the weight on soon! I'm going to enjoy looking at the scales while I can!!
  • I'm 21 weeks and I have gained 13lb before I was pregnant I was only 5'2 and 112lb.
  • You can mention it to your OB at your next appointment, but if they aren't concerned then I wouldn't be, either. Mine hasn't brought up weight gain, so I'm assuming no news is good news. I'm going to check in with her about it at my appt on Friday, but more out of curiosity than anything.

  • If your doctor isn't concerned, you have no reason to be. I'm over 19 weeks and have only gained one or two pounds and it's all in my boobs. I'm also petite. My midwife did express that soon I'll be needing to start gaining some weight, but she's not concerned.
  • Why is everyone weighing themselves? I have no idea what I weighed before I was pregnant. ..and im 18.5 weeks pregnant and I still have no idea what I weigh. womens obsession with weighing themselves and being constantly aware of how many pounds they are must be an illness. I mean. ..even being pregnant, it is still a huge concern for women. just eat when youre hungry, eat mindfully, dont demolish a bag of donuts, your body is equiped to tell you when youve had enough, or when youve gone overboard. Just listen to your body, not the scale, its just a number. cant you look in the mirror and know pretty easily if you look healthy or not? dont be afraid to exercise, its healthy. and when you have given birth, dont use the "its my baby weight" excuse 5 years after your baby is born. accept your task, get healthy...FOR YOURSELF. NOT FOR HUBBY, NOT FOR FAMILY, FOR YOU :-*
  • I am 14 weeks and have lost 12 pounds. My doctor said since the baby is measuring the correct size, and I am taking my prenatals that I shouldn't worry and for now to just enjoy not gaining weight.
  • I'm almost 22 weeks and only gained 4 lbs. My SIL lost a total of around 20 lbs with both her boys (extreme morning sickness), both her boys were fine and healthy. As long as baby is measuring well and you are hydrating, taking vitamins and eating what you can it should be fine.
  • I am at 19 weeks and also only gained like 5 lbs and that was only in my 2nd trimester. I lost 2lbs in my 1st trimester since I had really bad morning(all day) sickness! My doctor is not worried. The baby is measuring correctly and healthy, is what really matters!

I was overweight before I got pregnant. I'm now 40+1 and as of last week's doctor appointment, I'm 23 pounds lighter than when I started. My doctor was only concerned that I was actively trying to lose the weight, once I assured her I wasn't (plus baby has been measuring and moving just fine) she pretty much just shrugged it off and told me to count my blessings lol. I started eating MUCH better after I found out I was pregnant so I pretty much chalked the weight loss up to that. Like PPs said, if your doctor doesn't seem concerned then don't worry about it!

  • @HRojas77 I don't even own a scale but my doctor takes my weight at every regular prenatal appointment. I thought that was standard procedure?

  • I'm 22 weeks and think I gained around 2 pounds or slightly more than that. I never imagined I would loose weight. Frankly Im not that concerned unless I go weigh overboard, which I heard isn't healthy for the baby or mother.
  • Count your blessings lol. I Only gained 10 lbs total my last pregnancy and that's bc I ate healthy but also bc I couldn't keep much down in the first 6 months. My coworker gained 30lbs from looking at food and I think Kelly Ripa gained 65lbs. The point is everyone is different and as long as the baby is progressing well and your doctor isn't worried you shouldn't be either.
  • I was told it's not a concern as long as three baby is doing fine. I am only 15 weeks 4days but I haven't gained any weight. I did lose some weight at the beginning and I did not have horrible morning sickness. If your doctor isn't concerned I wouldn't be either

I'm 20+3 weeks and still weight 2lb less than I did pre pregnancy - I did lose about 8lb first trimester though due to morning sickness! I had my 20 week scan Friday and baby is perfectly healthy and they aren't concerned about weight gain to much that early! Don't worry everyone is different xx
  • I am also 5'5 and started my pregnancy at 150 pounds. I'll be 19 weeks tomorrow and I've gained about five pounds.
If your doctor isn't concerned, I wouldn't worry.
