Restless leg syndrome

I had restless leg syndrome before being pregnant, but during pregnancy it has gotten worse. Before being pregnant I usually didn't have a problem on the days I worked out. I'm still working out, but it doesn't seem to help. Does anyone else have this issue? If so have you found a way to get rid of the problem?

Re: Restless leg syndrome

  • I have it pretty bad, especially these days.  I have found that eating bananas and drinking Gatorade is super helpful.  It's the extra potassium that helps.  Good luck!

  • Yes it's awful. Along with the random itchies.

I second the banana and Gatorade. A banana a day has helped, and it doesn't matter what time I eat it. Once at 3 am when I couldn't stand it anymore and other days for lunch and I won't have it at night.
  • I eat bananas on a daily basis and it hasn't helped. I may give the Gatorade a try along with the bananas.
  • Are your iron levels low? My RLS acts up when my iron levels are on the low side. You could try adding more iron to your diet (one bowl of Total cereal has 100% of your iron needs).

My doctor told me to drink tonic water... It seemed to help but I also started taking iron supplements around the same time.
  • Yes my iron levels were low when they did the first hemoglobin test. Doc told me to take an iron supplement which I am doing. The second hemoglobin test I was borderline low so doc told me to take the iron supplement two times a day twice a week. I have started doing that as well. Have seen no difference.
