Do Dad's nest too?

Today we've gone on a crazy nesting spree, scrubbing every thing rearranging the whole house, putting up drawers and cot. Folding clothes and sorting the nursery. However my partner was the one who wanted to do it. I've been dying to do it I've just been too achy lately due to SPD so today he said come on let's give it a go. 8 hours later and we are done. I'm just wondering do dad's nest!?! Lol

Re: Do Dad's nest too?

  • Lol. I think they do. My DH was more concerned with getting things done than I was.
  • Loading the player...
  • He's just come home with a load of weights that he has just bought and said "he wants to look good for the birth" lmao he's due in 1w5d and somehow I don't think our son will recognise his muscles lol. I think he's taking this preparing to a new level haha ill be happy if someone chucks a comb at me after birth so I don't look so rough in the photos hehe
  • That's awesome! I do believe that dad's nest too. Mine went through it but on a different level. He cleaned out his snake boxes (assorted cables thrown in boxes because "we might need them some day"). He threw away just about everything. I couldn't believe it. I was also a little grumpy because he threw away 4 HDMI cables. Those aren't cheap.
  • My husband is excited about the baby, but has done absolutely 0 nesting of any type... I built all of the nursery furniture and toys and did all of the preparation.  His lone task is the car seat (and it's still sitting there waiting).  Oh well!
  • I think so. My DH is cleaning the patio as I am typing. He has done most of the chores this past month. I love it!

I'm in the same boat! My husband is the one who will come home walk around the house with shoes on, leave dishes everywhere, and leave his clothes on the floor throughout the house. Drives me batty! Especially with all my pelvic pain I can hardly walk.
  • It may be the weeks of moaning that encouraged his movements today lol. Because before he was the classic dishes on the side clothes all over the house. But for now I can't complain :)
  • My husband has definitely been nesting!! Although he's a bit ADD, I have to tell him to relax a little. It's so funny and cute.
  • I definitely think some dads do nest, but my DH is not one of them. To be fair, I haven't really had the nesting urge either.

I will say DH has been working more lately. It's his busy season so I'm sure it's partly that. But it's still more than any other years around this time. I can't help but think that part of it is him adjusting to the idea of being a dad and having a "gotta provide for my growing family" mentality. Anyone else's SO doing that too?
  • HA. If so my boyfriend is definitely not one of them. If anything ive been yelling at him more to pick up after himself and do some chores to help me out, i always get told "ill do it later". Later never comes. Lol

I can relate! My husbands favorite line is "I'll do the dishes in a minute, I just need to sit down and let my food digest". Fast forward to the next morning and the dishes are still in the sink. I've learned that if I just start doing them right after dinner, he feels too guilty not to help. :)
  • Yea they do! My husband had been organizing closets, hanging pictures and even putting away some of our daughters things...all without me asking.
  • Oh yes they do! DH has been making small repairs, cleaning closets, organizing the pantry. I just stare and love it! =))

My DH is this way too. He's in busy season and actually gets 6 weeks paid paternity leave (I know right, no fair!) but he is killing himself working 6 days a week, at least 12 hours a day, so save up for our little girl. I've been doing most of the traditional 'nesting' to make up for it. I really appreciate all his hard work!!

Oh yeah. Right now my husband is gutting his office because it will soon be the nursery, as I sit here completely useless in my snoogle on the couch.
  • My husband works like a dog in the Fl heat all day, and comes home wanting to finish a million chores/projects on his To-Do list... Those projects rarely have anything to do with baby, (cut grass, work on the cars, build sheds, Etc..) Maybe he thinks he has to get all of his "man projects" done before baby comes..? I think it's almost not normal that he can't ever let himself relax after work.. (As worn out as he is) It's like he feels guilty if he has fun/is not constantly working..:/ he was raised on a farm tho, so maybe that has something to do with it? I'm curious if any of your husbands are this way!??
  • My man is doing it in his own way. He decided we needed a better bike rack for our car. Then found out that the rack he wanted wouldn't fit on our car. So then he decided we just needed a new car. I asked him to just organize his closet or something.
  • Not only does DH nest, he's given ME a honey-do list. I just walk around helping him... but honestly I think most things on the list doesn't need to be done, can get family to do it for me when they are visiting for a week, or we can do it later when its actually going to be used. :)

  • Not here! I can barely get him to mow the grass. I've been asking him to put together garage shelves and clean up garage for a few weeks now. Still has t done it. Glad I'm a teacher and was of this summer to get things done.

My hubby is/has been nesting. He set up the nursery ( which we're not even using for 5 months or so ), her swing, her monitors, camera, cleaned and vacuumed -since cleaning sent me to L&D this week, he wants to go to bed bath beyond and use the million 20% coupons we have to redesign one of the guest bathrooms for the baby. I just feel like laying here and doing absolutely nothing.
  • If they do I hope my boyfriend starts feeling that way soon! It's been like pulling teeth to get him to help or to even get his opinion on stuff like a take home outfit or anything. There is still a huge hand drawn picture/poster that needs to be hung up that's been sitting in DS crib since we got it.

My DH is totally in major nesting mode. It's crazy! Since about March, he's been busting his butt around the house. He has: Cleaned/organized/painted the garage (including the floor), installed new lighting in the hallway by the nursery, redone the stucco on the front of our house, remodeled our bathroom, painted the entire exterior of our house, fixed our sliding glass doors, touched up paint on the interior of the house, gotten the carpet steam cleaned, repainted the mailbox and exterior lights of the house, set up the nursery furniture, done landscaping to fix up the yard, painted our patio, installed a new dishwasher and oven, hung up all decor items that have been laying around for the last two years, replaced the sofets on the house, removed our old gutters, bought new tires for both our vehicles, and has arranged for us to get a new roof put on this Monday. Now that he's run out of projects, he's been working 6-7 days a week to get ready to take some time off with the baby. He's so exhausted but just doesn't seem to want to stop the momentum...
  • @GirlOnTheBeach wow your DH has been going for it. Mine has only had this change today and I was so shocked. I could get used to his cleaning.... everyone else sit back and relax and enjoy our men doing the housework this could be once in a life time lol
  • That's how we've been spending our whole day too, so yes ma'am!

Yeah he's been over the top about it! As much as I love all the progress, I worry about him wearing himself out so much!

Being induced tomorrow and H is currently cleaning my SUV inside and out so it is ready for the baby. He also is all packed, has the camera charging, and cleaned out the fridge. Apparently I need to be scheduled to give birth more often....

My DH had been nesting his whole life. He mops my garage on a regular basis...
  • @girlonthebeach, I got tired just reading that!  Go Hubby!

This is my DH! It's so exhausting. Some days I feel like I have to make him take a break to do something with us. Then remind him why that's important too so he doesn't feel bad about not doing other things. I don't know anyone else who's DH is this way. So no one understands why I'm not super excited about it all the time. Relaxing with family is important too!

In the last two weeks he has leveled the backyard, put grass on it, built a fence, arranged for a new roof for the house, bought/installed a new washer/dryer... And who knows what else. It's exhausting for me to just think about.

It's been exhausting seeing him do it! And cleaning up after some of those projects too!

My DH is the same way!
  • I think they do!! My husband works very long hours and usually isn't too invested in the "details" of things. However, lately he's been all over getting things done. We even went shopping for a whole day to get a lot of our last minute things (and he drove 1.5hr away so I could go to the stores I wanted to go to). He HATES shopping and is usually the worse person to bring. But when it comes to baby and this trip in particular, he was so patient about my over analyzing everything and really provided helpful input to get the best!
  • My husband is definitely nesting!!!
  • Yes! My husband is cleaning circles around me right now...and im letting him! I feel like an awful wife for it, but im too hot and tired the past few days

    Baby #2 is due
