18 weeks and still not feeling any kicks...

Hi everyone! Am new to this app and pregnancy. I am 18 weeks today and still not feeling any kicks or movement. I was told that I should already felt those things by week 16. Can anyone share their experiences on this? ?

Re: 18 weeks and still not feeling any kicks...

  • You're likely to start feeling movement as soon as 16 weeks , that doesn't necessarily mean you will :) most first time moms don't feel movement until later in pregnancy :) no need to worry

  • I am 20 weeks today and really just started feeling one of the 2 babies move. There are a lot of things that can delay feeling movement. I am a FTM so I am sure there was moving before just didn't recognize it. The placenta could be in front of the baby acting like a pillow (one reason why I don't feel the 2nd baby yet). If you are super worried call OB and ask. Hope you start feeling movement soon.

  • 20w and feel flutters once in a while(since 18w) but no real movement or kicks
  • I'm 20 weeks and still not feeling anything. I would try not to worry too much.
  • Hey,
No worries! It's still a little early. I hit 20 weeks today and the doc said in the next few weeks I should feel LO. Don't worry, I'm sure you will feel your little one going at it soon.

  • I am 20 wks tomorrow and just started feeling little movements within the last week. And this is my 3rd baby. Dont worry you will feel your lo soon.
  • It also depends a lot on placental placement. I have an anterior placenta (placenta is between me and baby) & at twenty weeks I feel very small movements. I wouldn't notice them if I wasnt laying down & I'm a STM.

I'm almost 18w and haven't felt anything. There are many posts dedicated to this topic. Since you're new, you would probably gain lots of valuable info by searching or going back a few pages. You probably won't have to go far. This is a hot topic since many women have similar questions right now. Don't stress! You'll feel LO soon enough. Welcome to the board! :)
  • I don't feel definitive "kicks" just little taps all the time.  I've only felt with my hand once or twice because everytime I put my hand on my belly it quits.  Don't fret....it'll be kicking up a storm soon.
  • I was worried about this too, 20w tomorrow with twins. At my a/s I found out that both of my babies have anterior placentas. I've had numerous ultrasounds and they never mentioned it before. I'm kind of relieved that there is a reason I'm not feeling them kick yet. Maybe you will find out the same?

Many women don't feel movement until later in pregnancy, sometimes after 20 weeks. Even then it is not always a definitive "kick". At 17 weeks I felt the first movement, but it was more like a flutter, and I do not feel them often.
Like PP said, the search function will show a lot of threads like this with answers that may be reassuring to you.
  • I have been feeling movements, but most of the time it almost feels like cramps. You may be experiencing them without noticing. :)

I'm 21.5 weeks and haven't felt anything, but also have an anterior placenta. My doc told me I likely wouldn't feel anything before week 22 (my next appt). I agree with everything that's been said and would talk directly to your doctor if it will make you feel better.
  • I started feeling flutters around 19 weeks, but didn't feel real kicks until the end of 20 weeks (ftm with anterior placenta). You've still got plenty of time!

  • I'm 17 weeks with twins and up until 3 minutes ago the moon had to be out, I had to constipated, and my bladder had to be full for me to feel anything. It was probably gas though, lol. Both of my ultrasounds showed very active babies so I am surprised I feel so little. 3 minutes ago I totally felt my kiddies move but it was only for a couple seconds and they are now quiet again. It's awesome when you finally do feel their movements.
  • I'm glad someone made a new thread about this! Last time I went to the dr. (a couple weeks ago) she said I should be feeling stronger kicks and more often any day now. Well, I am 20 weeks and 6 days and still only inconsistent flutters. I was starting to worry but glad to see I am not alone!
  • I'm almost 22 weeks with an anterior placenta and just started to feel flutters a week ago.
Noticing a few more stronger movements now but nowhere near what others have experienced in our group. I have weekly ultrasounds (high risk) so I know he's in there kicking around - just chalking it up to being a FTM with an anterior placenta.
Basically everyone's pregnancy is different. I never heard that you are supposed to feel something by 16 weeks..my doc said "some moms start to feel movement around 18-22 weeks" but there's no set time or rule.
  • I am 20 weeks and not really feeling any movement yet. I'm not even convinced I have felt flutters yet. With my first pregnancy, I didn't feel a kick until 23 weeks. I wouldn't worry! :)
  • With my first I didn't feel kicks until 23 weeks. With my second I felt kicks at 20 weeks, this is my third and didn't feel the first kicks until 20 weeks again.
  • I'm pretty thin and my ob actually asked if I had been feeling her at my 15 week appointment. I think I felt a kick for the first time at 17 weeks. The few weeks after that I felt a lot movement, but it was so hard for me to tell what was intestinal movement versus baby haha.

Halfway through 19 weeks I was tutoring a student and I suddenly felt her kicking a ton. Ever since then, I've been feeling her all the time! It's like I can easily identify what it feels like now, which I guess is why they say stm can usually feel it earlier. Dh has even gotten to feel her twice!

At our last ultrasound they told me my placenta was fundal and slightly posterior. We also saw her make some crazy sudden movements- at one point her feet flew up by her face lol
  • I'm almost 19wks haven't felt anything!
  • Don't worry, I began feeling him kick towards the end of 19 weeks. I also have an anterior placenta. I have felt him kick every day since. :)
  • FTM. I am 21.5 weeks and today was the first time I really noticed A LOT of movement from my little boy. He got a 3-4 minute long solid workout this morning. Don't worry, when your little one is ready, he/she will let you know.
