2nd trimester prenatal vitamins

I am 17 Weeks pregnant. I've been on the same prenatals since I found out at 8 weeks. As of about a week ago I can't keep my prenatals downs. Before they were fine as long as I took them with food. I've tried everything and I don't understand what's changed. I've tried different times of day and night, with and without food. Help :(

I saw some at target ( I think honest company brand, they were by the tampons kind of) and they were 1 pill only... Maybe that would help?? I know the ones I am currently taking I have to take 3 of plus I've been taking two fish oil pills and it's hard to keep them all down sometimes. Also, Ginger is supposed to help. There are ginger teas, maybe half a cup before and half a cup after the pills? Good luck!!

My OB says I can take 2x the dose of gummy vitamins.

  • I've been on an Rx prenatal from my OB since 3 months prior to trying to conceive and haven't had any issues yet...is it the size do you think? The first month I was on this nano pill that was tiny and very easy to swallow, but that was because it was a free sample...my doctor wrote the Rx for the normal version (which is, like many prenatals, fairly large) since many insurances won't cover the nano size and it can be expensive...I'd ask about a smaller pill though if that's your issue, it may be worth the extra cost to be able to get down the nutrients you need!

  • I started on Vitafol nano (and then switched to ultra). I haven't had any problems with them. I take right before bed to avoid any "side effects".
  • I second the gummies, they're so tasty :) the only thing I'd consider is whether or not you need the iron, most gummies don't contain iron. That's why I switched to the bellybar chewable prenatal...taste like flintstone vitamins plus have everything in there including iron.
  • I had a problem with several different kinds then found the Nature Made Multi Prenatal. Doesn't make me sick like the other ones did and it's one pill once a day. Good luck, I hope you find something that works!
  • Is it that you can't swallow or that they are too much on your system? I have the prescription prenate minis. They are tiny and haven't hurt my stomach at all. I got a savings coupon online from their website so they are only $10 a month.
  • I take rainbow light complete, which is a once a day vitamin and also a DHA capsule. They are big, but have been ok for me. Rainbow light also makes a mini pill, but you have to take it 3 times a day. I'm not sure if swallowing smaller pills more often is a better or worse thing for you. Gummies are delicious! Just make sure they have everything in them that you doctor wants you taking.
  • I take the Target off brand gummies. They don't have the iron, since that's what was making me sick, but the doc said that as long as I'm getting some in my diet, then I'm fine.

  • I just started taking rainbow light, it's 6 pills that you take either 2 or 3 times a day to split them up. The regular once a day ones were making me super sick. These are a lot gentler on your stomach, with plant based iron and probiotics and ginger in them.
  • I started on Vitafol nano (and then switched to ultra). I haven't had any problems with them. I take right before bed to avoid any "side effects".
These are the same ones I took/take. I just take it whenever I remember to and have had no side effects.

  • I was really sick on OTC prenatals but when I got rx pills from my Dr they stayed down much easier. I had one friend who took 2 Flintstones vitamins a day (her ob suggested it) and had a much easier time with that.
  • My doc prescribed Concept DH. They are small, no weird smells, and can be taken with or without food. They contain iron, which upsets some tummies and can't be taken with calcium. But I have a sensitive stomach and they haven't caused me any problems, and I just take my calcium supplement a few hours afterward.
  • I have found that honestly it's the coating on my prenatals that makes me nauseous. Mine are gel caps I think (they feel squishy) but since they're huge they coat them in something that's supposed to make them go down easier. For me, it just gives me a nasty after taste that makes me want to vomit. I agree with everyone who says try the gummies. I used them with my last pregnancy, and then took an iron supplement on top of that. Since it was the weird coating and taste on the giant freaking horsepill (seriously, how are you supposed to swallow that without tasting it?!) I had no problem swallowing an iron pill after the yummy gummies. And same story as you- for some reason it never bothered me until later in the pregnancy. All throughout my first trimester morning sickness I had no problem with them. Our bodies just change so much when we're pregnant, it feels like your tastes can change fifteen times a month. Anyway, talk to your OB about your options. No doc wants their patients to dread taking their meds!!!
  • Am taking gummy vitamins but make sure there is iron in it if it's not take iron tablet by it self .
