Omg the itching!!!

So I called my dr this morning due to uncontrollable itching that I've had this week. I'm currently 37w2day. I've tried lotions, oatmeal baths, benedryl, cool baths or showers and NOTHING is helping. I'm waiting to see if they want me to come in for the blood draw to check for ICP. I talked to the nurse 3 1/2 hrs ago and she was supposed to make contact with the on call dr and would call me back. I've called and left another message half an hour ago but this is driving me insane. I'm fixing to just show up and demand to be seen. Grrrrr

  • I am just like this. It is absolute torture. I itch so badly I can hardly stand it. I was tested and had very low numbers so I don't know what my problem is. I scratch so much I have little scabs all over. :(

  • I would just go into the office at this point, esp where it's Friday! Good luck!
  • Hoping your doctor gets back to you ASAP! I'm sorry you're so miserable.

  • Hopefully you get your call back for labs soon. The icp itch is absolutely maddening.
  • So the nurse finally called me back again. She said the dr isn't worried about icp since there isn't a rash. Said it's just late pregnancy itching due to the skin stretching. So she told me to continue doing what I'm doing and she is caking me in a prescription for an antihistamine. Uggh
  • I ended up getting puppp at like 38 weeks. if you get bumps and thats what it ends up being I have found that drinking a good amount of v8 juice and using a soap called grandpa's pine tar soap has helped taken the edge off. It has only been a day or so of this but I'm feeling a bit better.
  • I feel you! Until you get tests back try to stay cool and take a luke warm/cool shower. That's what I have to do, even with antihistamines. It doesn't stop it, but it should take off the edge. Hope you get some answers, and RELIEF!
  • This is the worst!  I thought it was just supposed to be on your belly but it is all over!  I've read that it can also have something to do with your hormone levels.
  • I just had concerns over how itchy I was early this week so I called my doctor & asked to be seen this week, instead of waiting until next week. When I told him all that I was feeling, he was concerned that I may have Cholestasis. I would definitely recommend just going in in case it's something serious! Good luck!

This :( my stretch marks (which I only got around 36 weeks) are TORTURE! I can't stop scratching! I also have given myself scabs :-< lately I've been rubbing plain old coconut oil on my belly which seems to be relieving it a little bit but only if I do it continuously...
  • If you are feeling crazy itchy without a rash and it's persists l would push for the blood test. Has it disrupted your sleep and/or ability to function/focus during the day?
With my first, the driving me insane itch grew at 35 weeks to complete wreck by 36 weeks and they kept saying it was just skin stretching and allergies. At 37 weeks, with no sleep for a couple days because of the itch I called at night. They told me to come into l & d. I was met with a few eye rolling nurses, figuring I was an over reactive ftm. We waited while they rushed my labs. An hr later the Dr was in and told me I was staying until the baby was born. My labs came back dangerously high due to cholestasis. Baby was okay but they didn't want to take chances.
This might not be the case for you but I feel it's better to seem a little over reactive and it turns out to be nothing than take chances.

Last night was the first time it interrupted my sleep and it was bad. Up several times to pee and up several others to scratch the itch. Uggh. If I have any trouble tonight I'll call them back and request the blood draw.
  • Itching like crazy with no rash does indicate Cholestasis, as there is no rash with it. I would demand getting tested! It is dangerous to the baby if not delivered early.
  • I will be calling my dr again first thing on the morning. The antihistamine she gave me today did nothing to touch the itch and neither has benedryl. So once again I'm wide awake and scratching like crazy. Hate to wake DH up since he has to work tomorrow and the baby is moving like crazy. So I'll demand the test tomorrow. Already lost 5 hours at work today what's losing more time tomorrow as long as baby girl is healthy and safe. Thanks everyone

I'm sorry. I'm with you. It's horrible! This better go away once I have her. I can't live this way.
