Natural=nope. Epidural please!

38 weeks and LO was high and happy yesterday. Around 9am I starting having lighting like pain in my abdomen and back. Called my doctor and off to l&d we went. I have refused checks since 36 weeks and found out I am 3.5cm, 90% effaced, -2 position. However, they sent me home because my contractions are 30 min apart. I thought I wanted a natural labor, but no way! I can't even handle this. I am a pansy and proud of it! I really hate that things can stay this way for a long time and I may not progress. I really just want a pity party for how uncomfortable I am TBH. But at the same time want LO to cook as long as possible. Double edge mental sword.

  • It all sounds like you've got a good handle on what you want! I hope the pain lets up and LO cooks a little longer! I can't wait (when it's time) to read your birth story and perspective. Hang in there!

  • I'm with you on the epi. I know I am a whimp and I know it, absolutely no shame! Hang in there, we're almost to the finish line!
  • Hang in there! Hope the contractions get closer together and you can get relief soon!

    Hang in there! Hoping everything progresses well in time. Call me crazy but I'm anxious/excited to feel my first ever contraction!!! However, I never for a second thought I could go natural....bring on the epidural baby.
  • Well hopefully either contractions stop or they ramp up and baby comes soon. Being in the middle ground is exhausting and frustrating. Hang in there @acgonzalez22 it won't be long :)
  • Yay for progress! Better than having those contractions and being closed tight. Hope they either pick up soon or go away and let you rest.

    +1!!!! I completely understand. When I endured the physical pain of 1 ectopic and a pregnancy that ended in a miscarriage when my body cooperated for try number 3 and I successfully carried my daughter to term, I said I would not try to be a super hero. I know what pain feels like and I will happily do without it as soon as I am able. I had an epidural with my first and it was like a little piece of heaven on earth. To rest, to breathe even speak through a contraction without wanting to cry!!! OMG lol

    When I made it to L&D to have this baby first question? "When can we discuss pain management?" I had not even been told at that point I was 5cm and 90% effaced, but I knew by the pain he was coming out sooner than later! No shame in my game at all and no judgement towards another for wanting pain relief! Like PP have said glad things are progressing for you. Here's to pain relief soon and a creepy internet hug. Hang in there!

    No shame in not wanting to endure that pain! My first word will be epi when I go into my induction in 2 weeks
  • Epidurals FTW. I got mine only an hour before my girl arrived and I wish I had done it WAY sooner!!
  • Labor pain is no joke! I got the Epi and i wish I could get it as soon as labor starts! I have no desire to feel that pain.

    With DD I had a similar situation as yours, the cervical check actually kick started Labor more for me and I went right back to LD that morning.

    GL, keep us posted.

  • FTM, so no labor pain experience yet, but congrats on the progress! Birth plans are made to change and evolve with each situation.. no shame in the epidural, that's what it's there for! Good luck  :)
  • I hateee needles and the whole catheter thing freaks me out and so does being confined to a bed for hours..but im still asking for an epi as soon as im admitted! Theres just no way..
