Donating formula?

So a few companies have sent me boxes of formula in the mail. How they got my address (actually one came to DH) who knows.

My goal is to EBF and not to supplement at all. I know this may not happen for me, so I may need to keep some just in case.

But let's say it all works out with BF. I don't want to just throw out the formula, I know it's expensive and some woman might want it. Can I donate this at a food bank? Or somewhere else?

    They probably got your address if you have a registry or signed up for something at a maternity store.
    I was thinking of donating what was sent to me to a woman's shelter in the area.

    I kept a few cans of formula for myself just in case. Eventually, I used it to help me boost my freezer supply. The pediatrician recommended she have some every once in awhile just in case something happened to my milk supply so she'd be used to it. So once every two weeks or so, I'd pump and freeze what I got while hubby fed her a bottle. The rest we donated to the City Mission who was able to provide it to people who needed it. Churches will likely take it, too. Just make sure it's fully sealed and not expired.

    I just donated a bunch of similac I got in the mail. There is a center near my house that helps young girls during their pregnancy and they are always looking for donations.

    We have a neighborhood Facebook page and I've seen people giving their samples away on there.

    I also got a mystery box with my first and gave it all to friends who were unable: chose not to nurse. I also got a TON of coupons throughout the first year and just passed them along to friends and family.

    I'm keeping mine just incase. You just never know. It has a good shelf life though. If I don't use it I'll just put it on fb or a trading site for free.

    There are also diaper banks that accept formula and like a food bank, gives the donations to low income families in need. You can also obviously donate any packs of diapers you receive and don't end up using. Just search google and I am sure you can find one in your city.

    Also, if you need extra cash, you can sell them on ebay - you won't get a ton, but hey, it's something!

    I know our local WIC office takes formula and baby food donations. They just give it out for free to moms who need a little extra boost.

    In all seriousness, you can always donate to your nearest food bank or women's shelter. I'm sure they would love to have formula!
