Hi everyone, I'm 23wks and went for the anatomy scan yesterday. RN told me that I need to be referred to an specialist due to my baby girl has a dilated kidney!! Im going nuts, does any of you know what they do for that?? Thanks.
Lurking from Dec15, a couple of us had this on our scans as well. My doctor said they will continue to monitor and it will either clear up on its own (very common) or after the baby is born the pediatrician will address the issue. They will monitor me more closely and I have a referral to a high risk specialist as well. Take comfort that this is somewhat common. Sorry to hear that you got some scary news, I hope you get in to see the specialist soon. Take care.
Yes, my son had this and I, as well as, a lot of other ladies gave a lot of great advice if you use the search bar! Hope everything works out and sending thoughts & prayers.
I had it, too. So did my nephew, and he's 4 now and perfect. It's actually the most common "abnormality" to have. First, deep breath. It will be ok. Most cases, it resolves itself. If not, it's possible baby will need follow up after birth with an ultrasound and antibiotics. In the most severe cases, they might need surgery. But try to just take it in stride.llfor now they will just monitor.
There was another thread about this a while back and it got some really good feedback. I would try to find it if I were you. Lots of women have experienced it. Good luck!
I made a similar post about a month ago and a few ladies gave me great advice.. But yes my baby boy has dilated kidneys and I have been told it usually clears up on its own.. I have been told that by my OB and several of the wonder ladies here on TB.. If not then they will have to have a tube put in for awhile to help it.. Either way they will be ok.. But it will more then likely fix itself!!
I have been through this twice before and you will be monitored more closely throughout your pregnancy through ultrasound. Lvl 2 ultrasounds have better equipment and doctors who specialize in this area. Out of the long list of things that can go wrong during the anatomy scan dilated kidneys is quite common and is highly likely to correct itself. I know it is easier said than done to remain calm but take comfort that there are a lot of mamas here who are going through the same thing or have healthy little ones who had the same diagnosis (my son.)
Feel free to search "kidneys" there have been quite a few posts about this already and you will see you are not alone. Sending you the best of luck.
Our US showed one kidney at 6 mm at 20 weeks. At 22 weeks it is almost 11mm and in the severe category. We have another US at 28 weeks and then at 32. We have also been referred to a higher level hospital for delivery as we will need pediatric specialists available at delivery. The US at 22 weeks was also used to look for other Down Syndrome markers (apparently the kidney issue is one of them) but those all came back negative. I have done a ton of research and am comforted knowing that others are also dealing with this as well. Hopefully the issues will right themselves
