Liver bile test results

Hey ladies, I had the liver bile blood work done due to severe itchy palms & feet. Well my doctor calls me today & says it came back high and wants to re test me again. Has this happen to you? I've seen so many posts and when other momma's results come back high-positive everyone has stated they needed to deliver asap. Is it possible for your results to be different in 1 week? I then asked my doctor what would happen if the blood work comes back high again? He stated then he would probably have to deliver me he isn't sure. Just wanted to confirm if anyone else has gone through this or get advice from anyone that has gone through this before.

How far along are you? And is your Dr having you do NSTs?

  • @banfrog I'm 36w and 2 days.
  • I've had cholestasis in multiple pregnancies and the bile salts did not go down without medication.
  • Yeah I figured the results won't change that's why I'm a little puzzled as why I would repeat the blood work? How many weeks were you when you delivered your babies? @banfrog
  • If not on medicine I doubt they will change. If your bile acids are high, you need to deliver early. Good luck!
  • That's what I figured. I'm just confused to why they don't schedule to have him next week at 37 weeks. It takes a week to get the results back and I'm just worried about the baby's health. @fowlerpfs
  • That is odd that he didn't put you on meds! I hope everything turns out well for you and your little one! If you feel your doctor isn't doing enough, don't hesitate to get a second (or even third) opinion! The piece of mind alone is more than worth it!
  • @jazz0oh All 3 were delivered in the 37 week. DS1 at 37w2d, DS2 at 37w5d, DS3 at 37w. DS1 was an immediate induction but my other 2 were caught sooner and I had medication and monitoring.
  • I'm getting my blood work done again tomorrow, so I'm guessing I should have it back by next Friday I will be 37w and 2 days. Did any of your babies have to stay in hospital longer? I had both my daughters at 40 weeks so earlier is very new to me but whatever is best for baby. @banfrog
  • Mine was high but not high enough to be on medications, so I have to take Benadryl 50mg 4times daily. And have my bile salts drawn three times weekly, only takes 24 hours to get my results back. I'm 36 and 3 days
  • Yeah I've been taking Benadryl and using all sorts of creams nothing works! :( being itchy is such an awful & annoying feeling wouldn't wish this one anyone. I get my blood work done at a lab so it takes longer I guess. I wish I had answers sooner the unknown drives me crazy. @lesnchristina
  • @jazz0oh My boys didn't need any extra time in the hospital. They all were fairly jaundice so we had to come back to the clinic for the first number of days home. They all had issues initially with retaining their heat but were okayed to go home. Each baby and I did have an extra day in the hospital more so for me. They kept me an extra 24 hrs to run tests to make sure my bile salts and liver labs started to settle. With my first they even ultrasound my liver post delivery, they didn't with my second or third. I don't know if that is standard or was just my Dr being cautious.
  • It doesn't make sense to me to not schedule your induction for 37 weeks. Mine is scheduled for 37w 4d, and would have been 37w 0d if it wasn't for an insurance issue. I completely understand your concern about baby's health, as I'm right there with you. My oldest DS was 2 weeks early, for other reasons, and he was able to go home at 3 days when I was released after c-section.
  • Doesn't make any sense to me either I guess my doctor wants to make sure but I took the test a week ago just got results don't think it's going to change I'm still itching like I have fleas! Only plus side is I have another week to prepare & make sure everything's ready for baby boy to make his appearance. @fowlerpfs
