Were 2 months shots a bitch for anyone else?

had them Saturday and he has had 4 massive meltdowns and been inconsolable and his first tear. I hate not being able to fix it.

  • Ours were really bad while in the Dr's office but she wasn't too fussy or upset after. How long after the shots have these meltdowns been happening? Have you tried infant Tylenol?
  • Loading the player...
  • DS had a breakdown and was inconsolable about 4 hours after the shots for a couple of hours. Didn't calm down until Tylenol kicked in and he wore himself out. Completely broke my heart :'(

  • My LO cried after the infant Tylenol wore off. I gave it to him before I left. After I gave him another dose he was fine and the next day he was completely fine.
  • My LO got his yesterday. He was really unhappy (screaming as hard as I've ever heard) until the Tylenol kicked in the first and second time but in between he wasn't too bad. He's been fine all morning without a dose but I've been trying to avoid touching the injection sites. On the info sheet they gave me, it said the day after the shots are the worst. Does he have a fever? Hope he starts to feel better soon!
  • with my first I remember actually crying when he got the shots bc it broke my heart (2 month are the worst!) and so I was prepared for it this time. My 2nd is a much more chill baby so he didn't have an issue but I found that nursing him immediately afterwards kept him calm and he did have a fever a few hours later that lasted about 4 hrs.  Tylenol helps with that if you need it.  My friends have done tylenol before shots and seems to have helped them too.  I am just glad we get a month off before the 4 month shots!!
  • My LO had a fever basically all day and was super fussy. I think giving my LO Tylenol was even worse than the shots. Lots of screaming and choking, it was awful. I think she doesn't like the grape flavor because we do vitamin d every day and she doesn't have any problems with that.
  • No my son was perfectly fine. He cried as she gave him the 2nd shot and cried through the 3rd but then my mom handed him to me and I just shushed him and snuggled...not even a minute later he was out! No fever or anything but I think the stuff he had to swallow hurt his belly later that day. Other than that I had no problems getting him to sleep or anything. Maybe he's just used to having his blood sneezed out of his arms so it count really hurt him too bad. :(
I hope your LO feels better now!

The tylenol was more traumatic than the shots for us, he hates tylenol! Choking, gagging, then threw up everything anyways. Poor lil man.

Have you tried mixing it with milk in a bottle? We have no prob getting LO to take tylenol or vitamins because of this.
  • I will have to pump on his next dose and try mixing it. That's a wonderful idea. Thank you!
  • We ended up taking him to the ER to get checked out Monday. He had 5 meltdowns Sun/Mon.

Monday on the last meltdown he cried for 3 hours straight. Not crying, screaming like he had a broken arm or something horrific sand wouldn't stop. We gave him Tylenol and tried everything and decided we would rather be safe than sorry.

They didn't find anything but we felt we did the right thing taking him. He's never screamed like that before.

  • My LO SCREAMED!!! But I picked him up and he did stopped after a few seconds. I went to lunch with my step mom about 2 hours afterwards and he screamed the whole time. I was the only one who could hold him and console him. He started running a fever so I gave him Tylenol. He felt better. Fever came back and another dose of Tylenol. He was a little weird the next morning and then he was back to normal. Extra snuggles and Tylenol did the trick!
  • How many hours after the shots did all the side effects begin for your LOs? My baby girl had her shots this morning (10am), and 5 hours have passed and she seems pretty normal. I'm not sure if the worst is yet to come, or if maybe we lucked out, but have been giving her extra cuddles and love since, hoping that makes it all pass without any screaming/crying.
  • So DS had his shots last night and he was fine until about 4 hours later and woke up screaming bloody murder. Nurse practitioner said to give him baby Tylenol if he needed it but didn't specify an amount and it says on the box to ask a dr for dosage. We gave him 2.5 ml twice 6 hours apart and then they called back this morning and said to give 1.25 ml. Just curious how much everyone else gives. He's 14lb 13 oz.
  • When I asked the nurse, in case she needed it, she said 1ml every 4/6 hours as needed. My girl is 12lbs11oz
  • The tylenol sheet that his doctor gave me says 2.5ml for babies between 12-17lbs every 4 hours as needed.
  • Thanks that helps!
  • My son had his 5 shots today. I felt so helpless when he was getting them and he had a massive meltdown during/after but he's been okay since then I've even gotten a few smiles. I've been giving him infant Tylenol and lots of cuddles because that's all he wants to do and I'm totally ok with it :)

I hope you baby feels better soon!
  • My Dr advised there are two different types of infant Tylenol formula out there so be careful with dosages mentioned in case you have the other kind - they are surprisingly different. I don't remember the amounts for each but she advised the lowest dosage on the syringe for both. My babies are fairly small, though, but it definitely did the trick.

    Fever after about 10 hours.

    Screaming meltdowns from 24-72 hours

  • My LO had her shots Tuesday morning and cried but then fed and went right to sleep. In the afternoon she woke up and was crying and felt warm so I gave her Tylenol and she projectile vomited 3 times and threw up all the medicine. I was able to get another dose down and get her fever under control. She was extremely fussy for the rest of the day and didn't sleep well at night. Wednesday she was very fussy all day, crying in pain, I gave her more Tylenol it didn't make any difference. Wednesday night she slept her normal sleep schedule and Thursday she was back to normal. My pediatrician said for the next round of shots we are going to give her Tylenol an hour before her shots to help get ahead of the reaction. It was heartbreaking to watch her in so much pain and discomfort.
  • Anyone's LO have diarrhea a few days after?
  • @ewiley63 - my LO did. She had her shots on Wednesday, and got diarrhea on Thursday. Thank goodness that's the only symptom she's had so far. No fever, fussiness or meltdowns (at least so far haha).
  • My babe had his shots yesterday afternoon. He's almost three months so we are a few weeks behind on getting them. I nursed him while two nurses tag teamed and got his two injections done. He cried right away for a minute or so. He was a little harder to get down for the night but other than that, he seems perfectly fine.
  • My DS was the same @gtellier and @ewiley63. He had his shots on Wednesday and had what I assume was diarrhea on Wednesday and Thursday. So far today he hasn't had any. And he had no other reaction - no extra fussiness or fever.
  • I cried more than LO did. He honestly didn't even cry when the needles came, just made a little whimpering noise at the end and my mom quickly picked him up and bounced him on her hip and he was all smiles again. The doctor gave us free Tylenol but I never used it because he didn't need it. Slept like a champ all day and night, was super happy and chatty, and didn't even act like he just got a bunch of needles. Like I said, I was the big wreck that needed to be comforted
