Cut Shaving...

Good morning ladies! I searched and didn't find anything so if this was already discussed please point me in the right direction!

Have you been trimming? Sorry if this is too personal. Today I was trimming and think I nipped myself a little (ouch). I was just wondering if anyone else had done this? Would it cause any problems? And what everyone has been doing since it is bathing suit season? Any tips appreciated!

Re: Cut Shaving...

  • I wouldn't worry about a nick. Still shaving per usual over here. I will say that as you start getting a larger bump going it is much easier to shave in the tub... Not to mention a warm bath feels great when you are large and achey.

Indeed! Definitely something to be careful of. We're going on vacation next month and I am so bummed not to be able to hang out in the hot tub. Womp womp.
  • We are going away soon and I'm excited to go in the pool and attempt swimming since I can't go in the hot tub and am too nervous about boats!
  • I have a pretty good size bump already, which means I already can't see down there, and attempted to shave by touch. I cut myself pretty good, but after the bleeding stopped there were no problems. This was well over a week ago. I use a razor for Brazilian, and have cut myself before too.

  • I will say I hot tubbed while pregnant with my first. My Dr just said I would know my body temp was raising before it would affect my baby by getting sweaty, hot and uncomfortable. So I normally stayed in about 10-15 minutes. However, it was my parents and we adjusted the temp to 102 instead of 104 so to each his own.

  • I was beginning to get a little long.. so I trimmed. I figure it's probably a good time because I'm not going to be able to see over my belly in a couple of months, so I better enjoy the luxury of not having a jungle down there before it's too late. I tried to be as filtered as I could, sorry if it's TMI (:
  • My SIL told us all how she had my brother shave for her.. %-(
She's not a shy person by any means.

I told DH that when I get bigger, I'll probably have him shave my legs for me, but I wouldn't make him shave my down stairs. I trust him to do it, but I just feel weird about it.
So I'll most likely do it myself, it'll just take a little bit and probably most of the hot water. :D
  • Nope, I still go for my regular Brazilian every 5 weeks. I hate shaving/trimming anything.
  • Strange question, but since we are on the subject... (FTM here)

I was reading the bump's example of a birth plan like one we would fill out as we are approaching our due date about what we want and don't want during labor. One of the options was "no pubic shaving". Is that standard practice? What if it is well groomed? Who does it and when?

    Thanks!
  • Get one of those Schick trimmer things. You can get a pretty close trim without having to be as careful as you would with a razor. Helps when the bump is big and you can't see well.

@mommaSimpkin I read that wrong and thought you meant someone had their own brother shave them @-)
  • In terms of the birth plan thing... I actually read that my hospital offers it. But after watching my BFF deliver her baby I don't really care about that. They said the point is if you need stitches that the hair doesn't stick to them and pull. But in my opinion if you keep it trimmed up every so often (use a hair trimmer if you don't want to cut yourself)you're fine. Or go all out! Your delivery team won't care.
  • I was as big as a house with my first pregnancy and was still able to shave my legs and vagina up until I started having contractions and shaved before I went in to the hospital.

If I couldn't see as sure as he'll wouldn't have my husband do it for me -_- My junk would just have to be all natural.
  • I don't wanna shave hahaha so I haven't been :,D whenever I am too big though I will definitely have SO shave and trim me! She's a lady so has some experience obviously but still hope she doesn't cut me!!!
  • Right now I'm still bump-free and it's summer, so you bet your ass I'm shaving! I have a trimmer I always use for the bulk of it, and then shave the parts that would stick out of a bikini/underwear. I usually shave my legs daily in the summer, since I prefer to wear dresses because I overheat easily, but since I've been staying home a lot this summer (off work and school for the summer), I've been shaving my legs more like every other day (I go crazy if they get too stubbly).

However, I'm always admittedly more lazy about shaving in the winter, especially since everything is covered up most of the time, so I have a feeling by third trimester when I'm large and it's freezing I may just say f*** it to it all. I don't care what my doctor thinks of me, pshhh.

  • I wouldn't shave for a few days before labor. You give yourself tiny nicks and increase chances of infection, and they're going to shave you anyway if it's needed. Of course, I'm not a Dr., so ask yours about this if you don't agree...

  • I've cut my self shaving at it sucks! I'm thinking I'm going to use a hand held mirror so I'm not going in blind lol

It wasn't standard practice with my midwife group. My midwife actually told me that shaving for delivery isn't done so much anymore. I think you should ask your provider to see what their practice says about it!
