Is it true?

i was recently told, when u get sick all the time is a good thing, it means u have a healthy baby growing inside u. Does anyone know how true this is? This is my first pregnancy and I'm currently 10 weeks. I have no idea what's normal and what sound stupid asking.

Re: Is it true?

  • No, it's not true. I've had only a few bouts of morning sickness and my baby is fine. My first pregnancy I had zero symptoms and delivered an 8lb 6oz healthy baby boy.

  • If by sick you mean morning sickness, some think it stems from higher levels of hcg. So in that sense it can be infered your body is producing that hormone to support a healthy pregnancy. But that is not to say that those who don't experience MS are not growing a healthy baby, everyone experiences pregnancy different.

Side note: However, this thought does provide me some uplift while hurling up a meal lol

  • I think that little gem was made up to make those with horrid morning sickness feel better. Everyone is going to have a different story with pregnancy, and many of those babies are healthy with or without MS.
  • Yes, this is true, though obviously it is not true 100% of the time. Scientific studies have shown (I'm a nerd and read a lot of articles) that morning sickness is generally a sign of a healthy pregnancy. Yes, there are women with hella morning sickness who end up miscarrying and there are women with no morning sickness who have perfect babies. But, in general, it's a good sign because it shows your body is producing HCG. Not all women get sick due to high levels of HCG in their systems. We will call these women "rainbow unicorns" and secretly--or not so secretly--hate them as we kneel with our heads hovering over the toilet :-)
  • Last time I told myself that constant puking was making my baby cuter. ;) It didn't help much, though. Oh the other hand, he was incredibly cute from the get go, so...
