the place between asleep and awake

So the other night I was not quite asleep and my mind began to wander...I all of a sudden couldnt remember how the umbilical cord was attached and was trying to figurey out what they do with my end of it after it was cut. Did they stick it back in??
Of course I'm about rotfl now thinking about how absurd that is!
What do you think about at that in between time?

    I don't remember typically. :( as I get closer to waking though, I think - what time is it? Seems like slept for a good while? When is DH alarm going off? Should I stay awake? I'm hungry. I need to pee. Lol!

    My mind goes all sorts of places at night. I remember when my DD was a newborn the combination of sleep deprivation and being woken up from deep sleep constantly throughout the night resulted in some wacky hallucinations for me and DH. Once he sat up while he was asleep and started feeling around on the bed. I asked him what he was doing and he said he was looking for DD, he thought he had left her on the bed and couldn't find her. She was asleep in the bassinet in he next room as usual at the time. I also often found I would wake up and see DH in the dim light of dawn and I would swear his face had taken on DD's facial features. Those are just a couple I can remember. It was so vivid and bizarre. Babies do strange things to your mind....

    I've been stuck in that state for over 2 days now. The things the mind can come up with at that point... Just wow.
