  • Is this an aversion thread? If so, I can't eat anything that is close to breakfast food or anything with any sort of nutritional value. Legit, this baby only likes steak and sour cream and onion chips.
  • Yup unfortunately chocolate, but you can only eat if the cacao is about %70 it's written on their back. So buy bitter but not every bitter is %70 cacao some of them are %50, so chocolate is good for iron and magnesium and your baby but if only it is bitter :) and God I hate bitter!!!!
  • You will hear a different opinion from everyone, even among health care providers. Your best bet is to talk to your doctor and do some research.

Personally, I think some of the lists I've seen are overkill. I don't eat much differently while pregnant than not. Follow food safety guidelines (don't eat foods that have been sitting out for too long, or anything left in your fridge for a really long time, etc,), only dine out at establishments that are in good standing with the health department, and if you ever feel uncomfortable eating something, don't.

Chocolate is totally fine. Unless it gives you reflux when you're pregnant, like it does me, in which case I suffer and eat it anyway.

  • @popcornplease is absolutely correct! The standard list of "do not eat" foods is outdated and inaccurate, so check with your doc and read up on the latest research. "Expecting Better" by Emily Oster is a great source of research-based information and recommendations on what foods and drinks to watch out for when pregnant (and this list is actually quite small!).
  • Raw meat and high mercury fish and keep your caffeine intake to 200mg or below.

  • Here's what my doc gave me at my appt this week.

This is my second and I can honestly say chocolate was never told to me in either pregnancy. Actually one doc told me to do it for headaches.

Also most cheeses found in standard grocery stores are pasteurized including Brie feta and mozzarella. Check the labels.
  • Fish high in Mercury, raw meats/seafood, heat up cold cuts if you're going to eat them bc of listeria. If you buy commercial soft cheeses in the grocery store they are pasteurized. So really avoid unpasteurized products. That's really it. Chocolate does have a minimal amount of caffeine but I think you'd had to eat a ton of it to even get close to the allotted amount. Neither seltzer nor ice cream or cream sauces have I come across. Not sure where that is coming from. (This is my 3rd).
Also use your judgement and don't indulge all the time in sweets and processed foods, they aren't good in general. :-)
