Cradle cap/baby acne remedies

now is about that time that most of our LO's will see the emergence of baby acne or that beautiful crusty cradle cap.

I thought we could share what works/doesn't work, etc.

Currently my LO is smelling like an Italian restaurant with olive oil on her head. Mm, tasty. The yellow crust? Not so much. What has worked in the past or is working well for you now?

I have a soft plastic face scrubber ther I eye on his head with soap in the tub. It takes the dead skin off and keeps the cradle cap at bay. I wS his face every night with a warm rag and that has helped the acne.

  • @ksimo6 what kind of face scrubber?

My LO has a really flakey scalp. I don't think it's cradle cap, just dry skin. I used olive oil once, but I had a hard time rinsing it out. Ped said to try baby oil. She also said not to use shampoo.

  • Did the worst job in history washing the olive oil out so we left the house looking greasy. Going to have to re shampoo...doesn't even look like it helped either. Ugh!

This! But mine's not from Olive oil...LO has so much hair that even hours after bathing her, it's greasy again! Must be from us touching her and DD rubbing her head. Argh...we always leave the house greasy.
  • I used berts bees baby oil when I first put her in the bath then we play and I wash her body. I wash her hair last with the berts bees shampoo (make sure you lather really well). I don't brush the flakes out but after I rinse her little noggin I lightly scrub with a wet wash cloth. I've only done it twice but I definitely notice a difference. I used coconut oil the first time but it was a little too messy and was still really greasy when I washed it out. Still worked well though.

I found that baby aquafor helps both acne and cradle crap (cap). It soothes the acne and it's super moisturizing. It makes my lo's hair look greasy but it's not that bad and goes away.

Doctor suggested hydrocortisone .5% once/daily for LO and her baby acne. After a day, it already looks so much better.
  • Looking for any advice. For those of you that had yellowish crusty ears did anything work for you? I thought my daughter ( 5 weeks) had acne on her face but dr said it was a cradle cap and to use baby oil, that Made it worse so I switched to washing her face daily with aveeno and then rinsing and patting it dry. It has gotten better her face but still dry and rough. Now she does have cradle cap on her scalp and her ears are so crusty and I can't tell if it's moist from the lotions I've been using on her ears or it's something else.. I've tried honest company healing balm and also California baby cream. I don't know if this is the cradle cap on her ears or what. It just looks painful but doesn't seem to be bothering her. As I'm typing I realize her forehead seems much clearer. Could the baby oil last night helped? Why does baby skin have to be so complicated? Any advice besides what has been mentioned on here or the last baby acne post would be greatly appreciated! I don't know what to try now..
  • I've been wiping my lil guys (7 wks) Face with a cotton pad that I dip in whole milk and a few minutes later wipe it off w warm water.... He's has baby acne n really dry scalp n was born with a head full of curly thick hair.... I occasionally moisturize with coconut oil.
  • For cradle cap we use a combo of neutrogena t-gel shampoo and use a small small amount and scrub it in with a soft toothbrush. After we put Mustela Stelarker cream on his head. Again, a small amount. Both have worked really well. We do the t-gel about 2 times a week so not at every bath.
