Hey all! Just saw my OB yesterday and I have a hospital appt tomorrow so they can look at some things from my anatomy scan. One of the things they want to look at better is a thickened right heart valve. My OB didn't really say much besides that she want the high risk team to take a look at it on their better U/S machine and will have the Dr. talk to us after. Also they want to look at some ventricles in the head a little closer. Do any of you have any type of experience though with the heart because I have no clue what to expect?

  • I am so sorry you are going through this. I too did not get perfect news at the anatomy scan. I'm praying for you and your Bebe. Trying to be positive is hard and I have had my moments too...hold tight to the fact that everything else with baby is ok:)

  • @katie1885 Thank you and I'll be praying for you and your LO as well! Hardest thing for me is the unknown and waiting, usually I'm good at dealing with bad medical news but this is a first for me since I'm a FTM so I'm hoping whatever news I get I can handle it.
@MrsBwIVF thank you as well!! I will keep you updated and I'm praying for good news since this Saturday is also our gender reveal so we hope we can share good news at the party!

I don't have a thickened valve, but since I have a congenital heart defect, I was talking with my cardiologist last week about various approaches if the baby has one too. One thing he did mention was if there is a thickened valve, then can often just put a balloon in there for the problem, and do it laproscopically so no cutting baby open.
  • Thank you @ssn109 that's more info then what I could even find online!! It does make me feel better that they could do something without cutting the baby open!

One of the many benefits of having a cardiologist who is an expert on congenital heart defects and pediatric cardiology I suppose. I hope that whatever doc you end up with for the heart problem knows enough to know that could be an option!
  • Yay, so glad to hear that, OP! What a relief!
