Anyone else having to take progesterone suppositories?

Hey everyone! My dr wants me to go on endometrim (progesterone suppository) right away.  I am just wondering if any of you are needing to do this as well, or have experience with it.  I just picked up the medication and it was crazy expensive!  I was also told I need to stop breastfeeding immediately also, which I was planning to stop in August when my daughter turns 2!
My back story is that I suffered a miscarriage in december at 9 weeks pregnant. My progesterone levels are at a 12 at 4 weeks pregnant. So this is precautionary. I am willing to anything to make this baby stick. I guess I am just looking to see if anyone can tell me what it was like for them or someone to talk to about it.
Thanks :)

I had them when I was pregnant with DS.  They were no big deal other than being messy, invest in some pantyliners.  I will likely be taking them again with this pregnancy, depending on bloodwork from my appointment next Monday.  At 4/5 weeks my progrestrone level was 13.1

  • I have to take progesterone every night. I go to an RE and mine always prescribes them after IUI or IVF. I take the vaginal suppositories. Mine did not come with an applicator so I always worry I'm not sticking it up far enough. And, even though I pee before going to bed, I always have to pee a few minutes after I put it in! The NP said it absorbs pretty quickly though.
  • I used them with my 2nd IVF. This time around, I get to do the lovely progesterone in oil shots in the butt twice a day :( SO over it. Anyways, with the suppositories, you will want to make sure you are wearing a panty liner at all times. A yellowish gunk will leak out of you, which is gross but totally normal.
    IUI #1 and #2 = BFN
    IVF#1 = BFN, no frosties

    IVF #2 = BFP!! TWINS!!! Born 3/9/12

    FET #1 = BFP!!!

  • My progesterone is in pill form. Little ball caplets.
I have had such a hard time with pills lately, I almost wish I had messy suppositories.

  • I second the panty liner, they are messy. I used Crione and it left behind a build up (yuck) Anyways its no big deal, you'll be fine. :) Now why did they tell you that you had to rapidly stop breastfeeding?

  • I'm still doing the progesterone oil injections (post-IVF) and I am soooo ready to graduate! :-<
  • I'm not absolutely sure why I need to stop breastfeeding, I believe it's because it can pass through the milk and there aren't many studies on the effects. I feel bad that I can't really wean my daughter now...we were only nursing 3 times a day and they are really short sessions...my supply plummeted once I got pregnant.
I sure hope I still get nap time snuggles without breastfeeding!

  • First pregnancy and at 6 weeks. I was diagnosed with endometriosis and was also told I do not ovulate. I was about to undergo ovulation therapy when I discovered I was pregnant. I may have gotten excited too soon because I have had heavier spotting and was told my progesterone levels were so low I would not carry to term of I did not get it under control. I am taking the oral supplements, but now all of a sudden all of my symptoms have gone away and I can't help but freak out a bit inside. I had nausea, insomnia but exhaustion, constant hunger, and extreme breast soreness. After taking my first supplement last night, I slept so well, my breasts don't hurt nearly as bad, I have no desire to eat, and no nausea. We have our first ultrasound next week but now I am fearing the worst. I have to start seeing my doctor every 2 days for lab work in the meantime, but am I being dramatic? Im new at this.
  • I don't think you're being dramatic at all! It's so scary, the unknown. I know I question everything I'm feeling too! I don't think I'll feel better until I hear a heart beating! I also have to get lab work every 48-72 hrs! I wish you lots of luck!

  • I hear you on the nerves for sure!! I MC'd in April so I'm extremely stressed out about this pregnancy. I just found out (like 10 minutes ago!) that I need to start taking the progesterone suppositories. I'm glad I saw this so I know to get some good panty liners, as well. I think I'm either 3w6d or 4w2d and my progesterone came back at 17.1 and the HCG level was 159. The nurse said that is low, but as long as they are doubling that will be a good sign. I go back tomorrow for another blood draw and am SO nervous.
