1st Trimester

Hungry but don't know what to eat

I am 9 weeks with my second and I feel starving but everything just turns me off. I had extreme hyperemesis in my first pregnancy and I believe it is starting again. What are some of the foods you can 'manage' while battling nausea and vomiting?

Re: Hungry but don't know what to eat

  • It varies for me throughout the day. Last night hash browns and eggs sounded good, then by the time I was done making them, they sounded disgusting. I feel like I'm able to eat colder foods better. Like salads, fruits, veggies etc.

  • I agree. I am preferring cold foods although that doesn't explain my need for two Jamaican patties tonight. I haven't eaten one of those in 20 years!

Same here Im 9weeks i just dont understand what to eat. All i eat is cookies and sprite and crushed ice with syrup on it ..
  • I found Tyson chicken nuggets I could stomach. Also yogurt, bagels, and animal crackers. Fruit is either really good or the smell makes me gag.

OMG that sounds delicious. I know what I'm having for lunch!

  • If you haven't already, talk to your doctor or OB about diclegis.. I was vomiting and nauseous so bad I couldn't eat anything and nothing ever sounded good but I was starving too. I have lost 6 pounds.
Diclegis helped a lot. And another thing to try is chewy prenatal vitamins. They don't have as much iron in them, sometimes none at all. The iron is important, but it's hard to digest and makes your belly upset. It can make you sick.
Between those two things, the next day I was able to eat and actually had some cravings. I ate chips and salsa, Mac n cheese, potatoes, and a whole meal of fish, asparagus, rice, and some bread.
  • I'm 7 weeks and I have been eating a lot of fruit, yogurt & berries. Big meals don't sound good lately.

For me smoothies are a life saver. I make them with frozen blueberries, banana and OJ and water. Popsicles are good, but not very nutritious. I also feel like I can stomach bland potato dishes like a baked potato with a little salt and pepper and possibly a little sour cream or those thick steak fries. Plain bagels and cream cheese also seem to work for me.
