February 2016 Moms

Number of weeks

I just went for my first ultrasound yesterday followed up by seeing my Dr. According to the ultrasound tech I'm 11 weeks, but if you go by the day of my last period I'm 12 weeks. The ultrasound picture as up in the top left corner 13w4d so my best friend is pretty confused; and I kind of am too at this point. They gave me a due date of 2/9/16, but my best friend seems to think I might see our baby sometime in January. Any ideas?!

Re: Number of weeks

  • I think I might just be confusing myself with your dates. If the tech says 11 weeks, you probably are and just ovulated late since your last missed period was 12 weeks. But what told you 13w4d? This is whats confusing me a little bit.

    C/P 4/15/2015 5 weeks
    BFP 6/15 /15 Due: 2/25/16

  • The numbers on the ultrasound picture says 13w4d. When my friend and I used one of the due date calculators we used the first day of my last period which is how we came up with 12 weeks; yet the tech said I'm 11 weeks.
  • Not sure why the Tech would say 11 weeks but write 13w4d. Agreed with PP, call your dr and ask.
  • I had similar happen! I figured i was 11 weeks, my tech said 10 weeks and the picture says 11 weeks. But my doc is going by 10 weeks. Who knows!

  • Well, I am not quite 12 weeks yet, but I am due on 2/6, so I am not sure how they are calculating this for you.

  • Me either. My friend is the one who noticed the numbers on the ultrasound picture. She even redid the calculator using the first day of my last cycle and it still says 12... The Dr is also going with 11 just like the tech so I'm definitely confused lol. My friend seems to think since I have like three different numbers going on that baby will be here in January sometime not Feb 9th
  • I wouldn't put much stock in to anything other then the first date. After a certain point babys start growing at their own pace and measuring becomes less reliable.
  • The u/s picture is a snapshot, one of the multiple measurements they took may have been at the 13 wk 4d and then the rest led the tech to determine 11 weeks. Id stick with what they said.

All my u/s pictures from the same appointment have different wk/days on them but theyre all within 3 days or so.you can probably see the dots on the image where they were measuring at the time?
  • My baby measured bigger and in the ER they gave me a EDD of Feb 5th. But according to my LMP my EDD would be Feb 8th. My ob said we would just stick to my LMP because the baby can measure bigger or smaller within 7-10days around the actual date. I'm assuming she wants to just go off LMP or maybe baby measured a big difference from that date.
  • To clarify *snapshot- if you watch while they do the u/s the computer configures those dates based off the distance between points selected. By snapshot I mean basically like a screen shot of that moment. A moment later it may have had a different date
  • I had similar happen! I figured i was 11 weeks, my tech said 10 weeks and the picture says 11 weeks. But my doc is going by 10 weeks. Who knows!

This happened with me as well. The reason for it (for me anyway) was because when I went in for my initial appointment they just went by my LMP until my dating scan. So the due date they entered for me then transferred over to my ultrasound pictures, but has since been adjusted in the system.

  • My ultrasound pics alway show a recalculated due date based on the size measurements. Like at my last US my pics say edd 2-6 even though my previous US put me at edd 2-4. These are just estimates based on measurements and are not used to revise your edd usually. Even though I measured off my midwife did not change the edd from 2-4.

  • Don't worry about the difference between the 11 and 12 weeks. What pp are trying to tell you in that LMP is a calculation based on ovulating on day 14 of your cycle which is just a generalization, and may not have happened for you. Listen to you doctor
