It depends on what you mean by "a lot". They should sleep often, meaning they shouldn't be awake for long stretches during the day. Are you worried about your child? Can you tell us what's going on?
Oh no, not worried! Just curious. Yesterday she slept more than usual in the afternoon and was up all night (and super fussy) so we are not sure if she is going through a growth spurt or what. She is 8 weeks!
My 8 week old has been sleepier during the day too. She usually sleeps through the night (9ish-6ish) but has had 2 nights where she wakes up. Not super fussy, just unsettled.
I'm no expert, but this is what I've read and been following:
Under 3 months babies still need 15-18 hours of sleep in a 24 hour period. 11-12 hours should be overnight ideally. Which means 3-7 hours of naps during the day (personally I think 3 hours is not enough). Also until 3 months it's suggested that they not stay up for more than an hour and a half at a time. Come 3 months it's more like 2 hours.
My LO takes many naps during the day, he takes a lot between morning and afternoon. He's awake more towards the later part of the afternoon and then sleeps again before evening. Regardless of how much he sleeps during the day he still sleeps all night. He loves his sleep lol
I would say no, i noticed that LO would sometimes nap for 30 mins max every 2-3 hours and would keep it up until 4 am! While other times she naps for 1-3 hours at a time and sleep early and get a long strech,
1 thing i know is if i purposly interrupt lo's sleep i should be ready for a long long night!
I don't wake her up but i mean if we're out and i interrupt her sleep by strapping her in the car seat or taking her out of it so i learned my lesson and i don't take her to more than 1 place at a time
My pediatrician said "Sleep begets sleep" and that a well rested baby is more likely to sleep well, and be put to bed faster, than an overtired baby. All good things.
Re: If your baby sleeps a lot during the day, will your LO sleep less at night?
