Unisom causing insomnia?

I took a unisom tablet last night bc I really wanted a good night's sleep and my sleep lately since getting pregnant has been terrible. Anyway, it was the worst night ever. It's like it made me incredibly drowsy but unable to fall asleep. I won't ever take it again but thought it was a sleep aid and it seemed to have the reverse effect. Has anyone else had this happen? I just laid awake twitching all night.

    I have that happen when I take Tylenol PM or combine Tylenol with Benadryl. I don't know why, but same as you I lay there twitching instead of sleeping. Maybe try Benadryl tonight.

    I had the exact same thing happen when I took Unisom. I was trying it for nausea and it made me feel terrible! I tossed and turned for hours and never took it again. My doctor told me it has that affect on some people. Not sure why but I hated it!

    Maybe try melatonin tablets. Would check with your doc of course first, but got the okay for 3mg and under. It is a natural substance produced in the body. However, like many natural substances not as much research has been done, creating mixed opinions. Best of luck.

    My doctor told me to take unisom because I throw up every night. And I threw up unisom too. Never take it again since it doesn't work for me.
