Excess amniotic fluid?

Just had an ultrasound at 29 weeks, and doc noted an excessive amount of amniotic fluid.  She said that's often an indicator of gestational diabetes, but I screened negative for that last week.  Anybody else experienced this?  She didn't seem excessively concerned.

I had that with my first daughter, no gestational diabetes. From what I understand, it can be linked to GD but is not exclusive to it. There are several other factors, including "no indicators" that cause it. My pregnancy - and baby - were healthy.

  • Mine is measuring 21 where they want to see it between 10-20.  My MFM is not concerned at all and said the fact that my baby is measuring two weeks ahead could be the cause. Google was not my friend and prompted me to call my dr again and talk about it. He reassured me that it is not a concern at all.

  • Mine is measuring 21 and baby is measuring over a week ahead. I've been told it could be a sigb of GD, or it could just be a big baby makes more fluid because they're urinating more.

I screened negative for GD a couple of weeks ago and will test again next week to keep an eye on things. In the meantime I'm following the eating guidelines for GD because really it's just healthy eating which is good for me and baby, and there's nothing else productive I can do.

  • Checked with my OBGYN at my checkup today, measuring at 21, baby is measuring right where he's supposed to be. He's not big, but she said it's possible that he's urinating a lot.   No GD, and my OBGYN said apart from being potentially uncomfortable for me, it should be nothing to worry about, they'll just keep monitoring.
  • I had too much fluid with my second son and no diabetes. When I was 36 weeks I went into hospital with contractions and they decided to break my water because of his positioning. They said that he had too much wiggle room and they didn't want to risk my water breaking at home. Other than that everything went smoothly
