Stuffed up nose?

When it is cold my nose just refuse to work, I cannot breath, I can't eat, drink or sleep. I visited my MD today and she told me that no one will want to do or give me something because I'm pregnant. I was wondering if someone has the same problem and how you are doing?

Re: Stuffed up nose?

  • I was on prescription Zyrtec and a nasal spray for bad allergies prior to bfp; I had to discontinue the nasal spray but my dr said the Zyrtec was okay to take. It does help but not entirely I am still getting the preggo sniffles; it's hard to tell how bad they'd be if I wasn't already taking something. I would ask again, maybe your ob can help you out. Worst case you may just have to wait until 2nd tri? I had bad sinuses my first pg so I feel your pain!!

  • Breathe right nose strips might help some. They helped me a lot with pregnancy related restricted airway with ds.

  • I'm suffering through. I have terrible allergies and am usually fairly congested but it is definitely worse now. Check with your doctor if you can do something like a neti pot? I can't stand them, but I hear a lot of people love them.

  • I had sniffles and congestion for a good three days earlier in my pregnancy. The only thing my doctor said was okay was saline spray. I didn't actually use it though.
  • My obgyn gave me a list of medicines that I could take and Sudafed (and Sudafed plus) was on there, but they really urged me to try more natural approaches (like a saline spray) first.

  • ughs, I have this too on top of feeling nauseous. Dr. Google said it's pregnancy rhinitis.

  • Yes! It has been miserable. I have been getting bad sinus headaches as well. Breathe Right strips have helped a lot but it doesn't completely cure it. Whenever I have something really important that needs my full focus I will take a Sudafed but I try to avoid it for the most part. I have also taken Benadryl a few times when it has gotten unbearable while I was trying to sleep. Vapor baths also give some temporary relief and Wasabi always helps clear my sinuses for a little while.
  • Yes! Feels like my allergies or the beginning of a cold, but it's not getting better or worse. Just started a few days ago.
  • I say try Neti pot. I actually prefer the squirt bottle version because I can use it in the shower. It is awkward at first but you get use to it. I lived by it with my first pregnancy. Also benedryl helps a lot at night
I take Zyrtec because I have severe allergies so I haven't had a problem yet but I'm expecting the sinus problems when winter hits.

I have a history of sinus issues and allergist forewarned me about pregnancy rhinitis while I was TTC. Suggested sinus rinse or saline spray 2-3 times daily versus my usual 1/day rinse. Have also felt like am getting early stages of a cold but it has not been severe.
