Pain on lower right side after ultrasound

Hi ladies,
I plan on asking my doctor about this when they open tomorrow, but wonder if anyone else has experienced this (haven't seen anything similar posted). I've had some pretty long ultrasounds this week. My AS on Monday and a fetal echo today. Both times, the baby wasn't cooperating and both technicians pushed a lot all around my belly and pretty deep into it. It freaking hurt. Today in particular, the technician kept pushing really deep on my lower right side - sort of where the appendix is. When he was pushing really deep, I'd get a momentary cramp on my back. If he stopped pushing it would stop.

Well now it's been a few hours, and I have a dull pain that comes and goes on that same side. Could it be bruised? I'm worried about appendicitis but from Dr Google it sounds like that's more of a pain that keeps getting worse. Mine comes and goes as sort of a pang on the site where he was pushing a lot. Anyone experience anything like this after ultrasounds? I really hope it's not an infection of sorts...

Re: Pain on lower right side after ultrasound

  • I was pretty dang sore in my uterus after my ultrasound Monday and she didn't seem to be pushing super hard. I'd imagine you're just tender from all the poking and prodding but you're absolutely right to call your dr in the am. Better safe than sorry.
Maybe lay on a heating pad tonight?

  • Oh that's not a bad idea @kristen2b. I don't have an actual heating pad but I am sure I can make one up with a towel. Thanks! I hope it's just soreness.

A quick test you can do is to lie on your back & raise your right leg up. Then have someone try to gently push against your leg to bring it back down as you resist & try to keep it up. If this causes pain in your right abdomen, there is a good chance that it is an appendicitis. My mom was a nurse & would always have me do this whenever I had bad pain on my right side. Hope it's just some bruising & that everything is ok!
  • @LMJL thank you! I'm waking up my hubby and asking him to do this now!
  • At my 12 week scan baby was asleep and there was lots of pushing on my belly. I was pretty sore the next couple of days. I felt like I got punched in the stomach.
  • Thanks for the input all. I did the trick LMJL recommended and there was no pain. And it seems to be better today. So it could've just been from all the prodding. I felt like a push pillow thingy.
  • I always get really crampy after they do anything with my abdomen even just checking Penny's heart rate.
  • I was super sore after my US yesterday!!!
  • Both sides sore from my anatomy scan the other day....two days later it is better, yes the digging in the sides doesn't feel great
  • Just wanted to chime in that this is totally normal!

I have weekly abdominal and transvaginal ultrasounds and the past few weeks have felt very sore afterwards. Cramping from transvaginal and soreness in my lower abdomen from the abdominal, sometimes more on one side than the other.

I asked my doctor last appointment if this was normal and he said absolutely- right now our muscles and ligaments are stretching so much due to the growing baby. Add in the poking, prodding and pressing and voila..aches and pains! Plus my little guy loves to sit low and burrow into my pelvis..

Same as pps, I was a bit sore after the U.S. Thursday but not sore enough that id think it was appendicitis. Talking to doc Monday is a good idea.
