Sudden drop in milk supply

Hi all, I felt pretty lucky with my son taking to both the breast and bottle easily (started pumping about 4 weeks ago). But all of a sudden within the past 3 days I'm struggling to get any milk. I get a good 5 ounces when I wake up - I pump the side he's not feeding on - but then the rest of the day is tough. He ends up crying because he's not getting enough from nursing, so I have to use the bottles I have pumped.

My main concern is I return to work in 2 weeks, this could not be worse timing!! I'm so worried I won't be able to get enough of a supply to last a few days, and then when I pump at work I may not get enough to continue!

Has this happened to anyone else? What did you do to get back to producing a lot?

I having the same problem I was pumping all the time and it was upping my supply. But I have been so busy I don't have time to pump and I went back to pumping and I am not getting what I normally have been. I am now using formula because I am not producing enough. I breastfeed when I produce. I am glad I am not the only one

Having the same issue. Thought it was the mini pill so i stopped taking it and my supply came back a little bit but still not what it was before. The lactation consultant said pumping can decrease your supply. I pumped the first month then went back to breastfeeding so i thought my supply would increase. I'm going to start pumping between feedings and see if that helps

I was told to pump in between feedings. I have been taking fenugreek it was helping and now it's not. I am going to try it again. I am also taking the mini pill as well. I don't know if that's why my supply is low again. I am thinking I need to stop BF all together. But I love the bond I have with my son and I know I am going to miss it. I am at odds at what to do....

My supply just dropped today out of no where! I am thinking I need to eat and sleep more? Hope it picks back up tomorrow !

The mini pill I am taking is Nora bee. My OB said it shouldn't affect my supply....

I am EBF and pumping for when I go back to work. I feel like my supply lowered so I ordered lactation cookies. They are yummy and they definitely help! After only a few days I see a difference.

I EBF and I'm pumping to build a stash of milk for when I have to be away from DD. I've noticed that lactation cookies definitely help and staying hydrated is key.

There are lots of good recipes for lactation cookies on Pinterest and I found a few good ones just by Google searching. I made a batch last week and they are so yummy. I have to tell myself not to eat them all at once.

Also try adding galactagogues (foods that boost lactation) to your food. I put some flaxseed meal in my fat free yogurt or eat a handful of natural almonds as a snack. I add whole oats to my cereal in the morning as well.

Also knowing what foods decrease lactation is important.

Yea it does suck I don't want to stop breast feeding but Iau have to and I am really bummed about it..... I am trying everything I can think of..........

Yes this happened to me and I was so adiment about EBF. Finally my mom encouraged me to suplement with formula. I felt so guilty and upset for not being able to give him enough breastmilk. Let me tell you, suplementing is a lifesaver! I pump and use the milk I get for a 4 oz bottle before bed. Through the day I use formula and breastfeed. We are both much more relaxed and content. Don't stress and add some formula! They do great and are still getting breastmilk also

My dr told me she's seen both mirena and mini pill affect supply even though manufacturers claim otherwise. She rec pumping between feedings, etc to maintain and expect to take 2-3 weeks to get it back up.
I chose copper iud instead. (: I was intimidated by the thought of having to work so hard to maintain supply.

I am doing the same things as you are. And I feel so much better knowing some one else is doing it too. I still don't think my son is getting breast milk when I BF him. It's so hard to tell
