Stabbing/tearing pain beneath the boob

Is this in any way related to pregnancy? Its constant pain... feels like something is tearing and when trying to have a feel to work out where the pain directly is... it all feels bruised... i have had the first show of my boobs lactating this morning with a dribble from each. First pregnancy so id rather ask and see if anyone can relate?

Re: Stabbing/tearing pain beneath the boob

  • I have the same feeling. Doctor says she has a knee under my ribs and the pain is her moving. While our symptoms sound the same
You should always ask your doc. The only thing that helps the pain for me is going in the pool. She will slip out for a while but she always makes her way back in.

  • Ive already been doctors and A&E with rib pain which they reckon is dislocated but the boob pain felt that tiny bit different. I can only imagine its the tenderness now being more prominent. Plus ive been told to expect 8-9lb baby or more which im not surprised with and im carrying quite high at the moment.. no signs of dropping soon. 6 weeks to go as of tomorrow. Hopefully the pain will subside once little one drops.

I have had it too, it is pretty common. OB said it was nerves stretching. However, if you are concerned, you should always check with your doctor.
  • Yes I have that pain too! I am 38 weeks and I've had it the last few weeks. It's right under my boob and it hurts more when I wear a bra. When I went to get a fetal assessment done I found out that that's where her knees were
  • Oh wow. I've never felt this kind of pain. Definitely ask your doctor about it. Hoping you ladies get some relief soon!

  • Hello...Sept Momma butting in... :-)

I had the same thing. It was HORRIBLE and constant.  I went up a band size in my bra and it eliminated the pain.

Double check with your Dr., but I would definitely give that a try.
  • The pain eases a little without a bra... but the pain is still present. A bath has helped past few times but last night i was stuck in there for 10mins after the water had drained too weak to get up. 34 weeks today... hard to believe that 14 weeks ago i was breaking up fights, dragging people out if a nightclub and running up and down multiple sets of stairs while working as security... if it wasnt for being kicked in the stomach and having pain for a week... id never have gone to the doctor and found out i was pregnant. But now... im even too weak to get out of a bath :( it feels a little depressing.. my other half has to stop every few yards when were out just so i can catch up because im so slow... then the pain takes over under my boob and i have to stop for 5mins because it winds me
  • I have a burning/bruised pain that is constant and under my boobs at the very top of my bump. The nurse seems to think it's skin and muscles stretching, I think it's that plus little Man has been poking his feet and legs in my upper ribcage for weeks.
  • I've had the same pain since 31 weeks. I have a 3 year old at home too that wants me to pick her up all the time. Went in to L &D after calling my dr and they said either dislocated or fractured rib. I'm not allowed to lift more than 6 lbs now until LO is here. They put me on some pain meds as needed. Good luck and hope the pain starts letting up soon.

Same here....I have had nerve stretches and pinches before as result of some yoga poses so I am familiar with the feeling.  It is especially bad when I lay on my sides...which is ironically the only way I can lay these days :)

  • I had the same thing with pain shooting from under my breast in the rib area all the way to to my shoulder and down to my finger tips. They sent me to L&D Triage and did x-rays. They told me that they couldn't find anything wrong and sent me home after almost 7 hours of being in the hospital and monitored. I was really hoping they were going to find something so it could be fixed. A week later i was diagnosed with pregnancy induced carpal-tunnel. Only thing they do for it is ice and Tylenol. they said any kind of compression helps. Especially over night. It is VERY painful, and can be scary, but they told me i just need to suck it up and deal with it pretty much. (Of course they said it in a much nicer way, but it sucked to hear). I hope ice, some kind of bandage wrap over night, and Tylenol helps you! :) good luck!
  • I had this pain since about 22 weeks and the doctor kept telling me it was the baby in my ribs.... WRONG! I knew that wasn't the case and since none of the doctors in my practice would listen to me about the persistent pain they suggested I go to the ER to see if they could figure it out. turns out I have costochondritis... the muscle that connects my ribcage to my breast bone is strained. very painful right under my boob... just remember u are always your best advocate.
  • I have this, it's muscle strain in my case. Not a lot that can be done for me, but taking it a bit easier has helped it not hurt quite so much. I don't lift things or move in a way that would engage those muscles if it's not necessary.

I've had something kinda similar. My OB told me that my LO has separated a muscle that attaches my abdomen to my right rib cage. She said it's due to his weight. I'm on a weight lifting restriction. And you should see me try to get out of bed or off the couch! I look like a turtle flipped upside down! It's been pretty awful since the fourth of July weekend, but I've noticed it's feeling better as of yesterday. Hang in there!
