11 weeks turns over

my 11 week old just started turning from back to stomach. I place her to sleep on her back and she immediately turns on her stomach. I spoke to her ped and they said it's fine and if I see her to turn her back if not don't worry about it. Does anyone else have this happen with their lo?

  • Wow cool! Mine rolls to his side at 10.5 weeks but hasn't quiet figured out how to roll over yet

    Congrats!
Do you do a lot of tummy time? My 11 weeks old doesn't even try to roll but she hates tummy time so we barely get any
  • As soon as they can roll really well themselves I don't flip. I think you've got a fairly early roller but probably wouldn't stress. I do stop swaddling after they roll, but I doubt you're swaddling if she perfected her roll!

  • Something I didn't know: The "fencing" reflex. Our pediatrician showed me this when she was looking over ds2. On back, one arm up toward head, one arm out. Like a fencing stance (lying down) she said once they get rid of the reflex, they'll roll over so she already knew we weren't there just yet. The reflex keeps them from rolling over too early. I thought it was because ds2 doesn't love tummy time. Learn something new every day. I hadn't heard of it with ds1!

DS rolled from belly to back at 4 weeks! Did it five times but hasn't in a few weeks... I think he's too heavy now, poor little porker
  • Yes we do a lot of tummy time and she holds her head up really well! I swaddle her body but not her arms. She has always hated her arms swaddled! The pediatrician said as long as she doesn't mind the swaddle I can keep doing it.
  • @Hawk&Eye My son does this still - I find it adorable! Had no idea it was a universal reflex.

We also do a lot of tummy time.
  • Yes! My LO is almost rolling over from back to front. She can get on her side but hadn't quite rolled! She is 11 weeks too. Scares me bc we swaddle her. It won't be long until we have to stop!

  • Awesome! And yeah it's fine, just keep the stuffed animals and blankets out of baby's sleep area ^_^ My 11w old doesn't roll over yet, just teeters as far as her side and then flops back into place.
  • Thanks ladies. I have no choice but to deal with it! I roll her back to her back when I see her but she automatically rolls back to her belly. Hopefully it's just a phase and she'll grow out of it...
  • My LO is 10 weeks tomorrow & has been rolling over for a few weeks now. She gets stuck on her arm sometimes & gets so upset that she wakes herself up. I don't want to roll her though b/c I know she needs to figure it out herself.
