Bad taste in mouth

I am 8.5 weeks and feeling okay, just tired a lot. BUT I always have an awful taste in my mouth. I brush my teeth constantly, chew gum and drink water…but it actually wakes me up at night.  Anyone else struggle with this or have some suggestions???

Re: Bad taste in mouth

  • Does your mouth feel dry? If so they make a special mouthwash.

  • I kind of have this right now. For me, I think it has to do with the extra saliva. But the kind that wakes you up at night? I've had that once before as a side effect from an antibiotic and it's the worst thing in the world. Seriously. I know what you're talking about and it fricken sucks.

  • Yeah I have this on and off too. I tried brushing my tongue but that just lead to dry heaving. I drink plenty of water and try to eat bland foods. Might be related to my acid reflux (another fun pregnancy symptom), not sure. I haven't found a remedy yet but I'd love to hear suggestions!

  • I have it to, I don't remember it all with DS. Haven't found a cure yet either :/
  • I had that for a few weeks but it seems to have passed. Ugh it made all food so unappealing
  • It's such a annoying symptom!
  • I have this too. Try sucking on hard candies since they last a while or popsicles sometimes temporarily work.
  • I had this when I went into nine weeks. I did some research and found that it was normal and may help with some sour food. Then I tried some sour fish that night. It did make the bitter taste go away. However, the sour food got me heartburn. The heartburn went away after three days. I was not able to have food that has acid, such as orange juice, pineapple and mango. Call the doctor if this bothers you too much and otherwise, just hang in there. It will go away. This is the advise I got from my doctor. Good luck!
  • Hello Everyone. I definitely had this. I am now 10 weeks and it began to subside at week 9 for me. I would chop up lemons and carry them with me everywhere I went. After I ate anything, I would either squeeze the lemon juice in my mouth or I would eat the lemon slice. It helped tremendously. I did that from weeks 6 through 8. Now I use a little baking soda and a little water and swish it around making sure I hit the back of my tongue. This works as well. I switched to baking soda because I was concerned that all of those lemons would wear away at my tooth enamel. I barely have this problem anymore, but I never leave home without a small snack sized ziplock bag filled with baking soda just in case.
  • I sometimes taste like I've eaten a tube of lipstick..yum! And food sometimes tastes "off" oh and yes I brush my teeth and still wake up with a bad taste a few hours later. I read this was normal but it's very annoying :( hope it goes away soon for you!
