FTM but legally you have the right to stay for 48 hours following vaginal delivery and 96 hours following cesarean. Obviously if medically necessary you can stay longer or you can go home earlier if given the okay. This is in the US, not sure about other countries.
That sounds right to me. I was induced on a Tuesday and labored through the night and to the next afternoon. They didn't start the countdown for nights stayed until she was born, so the first night didn't count. I stayed two nights after she was born, so three nights total including the evening I was induced.
I always sign out 12 hours after birth if my baby gets the okay from our ped. I don't get pain meds so I am up and moving right after. We do a well visit/weight check 24 hours after being discharged.
I had my son Friday morning and went home Sunday afternoon. I was released a day early because I was doing so well with my recovery, but typically I would have gone home the next day.

Added question: Does the fee go up due to the amount of days your in the hospital? I heard it was almost $4,000 to give birth in any hospital.
This depends on your insurance and will be different for everyone.
I've never paid a dime for any prenatal care or my hospital stays, because I deliver at the sister hospital to the one I work at. Employees are enrolled in a special program and the hospital eats the cost of anything above what your insurance covers. I also have really good insurance with no deductible.
Emergency c-section - 4 nights, 5 days. Arrived at hospital around 5 pm on Friday, born a couple hours later and left Tuesday around 8 pm.

This was me exactly. I could have stayed an extra night (covered by insurance since I ended up with a c-section), but we (baby and I) got the okay to go home after 2 nights. Thankful for that. Hospitals aren't my thing.

It depends on your insurance. Some have a daily rate, others have a per admission rate. Keep in mind that in most cases your baby will count as a second admission, so there will be 2 hospital fees, one for you and one for baby.
ETA if there is a member services phone number on your insurance card, they should be able to give you an estimate for both you and baby. Good luck!

This depends on your insurance. I would talk with them to see what your costs would be.

On my last csection i went in on a friday had him at 2pm. And was home on sunday at 4 im in the uk and they tend to have you in and out very quickly. For a normal delivery its possible to go home the same day.
In terms of cost I would get as much info from your doctor about billing codes they will use. For my OB they use global billing after delivery under one code so I was able to pass that on and find out from my insurance how much I would pay.
I checked in for my induction at 4:30 AM on a Friday morning, DS came at 5:30pm Friday afternoon, we went home around 11 on Sunday morning. STAY AS LONG AS THEY WILL LET YOU! I loved being in the hospital. Its three days following a C=section
The hospital where we are delivering is 24 hours for vaginal birth and 48 for c-section (but varies due to circumstance), and if you deliver after either 4-5pm in the evening, the'll add an additional night (so you don't have to leave late in the evening) if that makes sense. Example, if you deliver before 5pm on a Monday, you'd leave Tuesday. If you deliver after 5pm on a Monday, you'd leave on Wednesday (for a vaginal delivery).

Ugh, me neither. I'm gonna hope to get cleared sooner than 2 days this time. The nurses barging in all hours in the night just to take my temp was really annoying. Yes, I know it's their job, but man was it rage worthy.
@misamima not to mention baby's nurses coming in equally as often but right in between times that your nurses come?! Like, can't they link their schedules or something? Do their rounds together? Just an idea. There is ALWAYS someone coming in the room.
Vaginal- I delivered at 1:30am and was up at 6:30am screaming for my nurse to hurry up and discharge me because baby was airlifted to another hospital for NICU services. But I also did it without meds. This time, I want an epidural and I'm staying at least 24 hours. Hopefully not too much longer, I hate being in the hospital, I never can really rest.
I had DD at 11:45 PM on a Friday night and discharged home Sunday morning. They debated letting me leave Saturday afternoon. They were super helpful and accommodating (especially with establishing BFing) but I just wanted to go home with my new baby!
I had dd via c section at 1 am on Tuesday and was discharged at 9am on Wednesday. I delivered DS via c section around noon on Friday and was discharged on Sunday morning. I could have stayed longer with both but baby and I were feeling great so i just wanted to get home.
Went into labor Wednesday morning (3am) had her at 12:59pm that day and went home on Thursday because "They were overbooked". I would have preferred to have stayed the whole 2 days. The extra help is amazing the first two days
I was admitted on a Friday afternoon for observation before my medically necessary induction. They need to give me steroids to mature DS's lungs. They started induction on Sunday night at 8pm. DS was born around 10am on Monday. Due to complications, I wasn't discharged until Friday morning. I spent almost a full week in the hospital. I'm hopeful to have a different experience this time around. That being said, my hospital is part of a large health system and the whole experience was awesome. The nurses kept interruptions to a minimum and tried to take my vitals when I was awake to feed/visit DS in the NICU.
I had my two in France, you ahev to stay in 5 days but both times i was going crazy especially as my daughters second birthday was 4 days after my son was born. I managed to some how get out after 3 days with both. This time i am in the US using a midwife birthing center we will only be staying a couple of hours after the birth. My sister in law had her baby in a hospital here and she was expecting to get out the same day but they kept her in for two days because they where worried about infection because she refused to take antibiotics
I had some complications with my first and stayed 4 nights following delivery... With my second I had him at 1:33pm on Friday and we went home at 10:00am on Saturday.
Word of advice, be careful leaving if the Dr. has not cleared you to leave even if you feel great. The Dr. may put you down as leaving against medical advice for his own protection and insurance companies don't always pay their share or only pay for a portion of the cost if it's considered AMA.
I was in the hospital for 36 hours total. Had an early didcharge hy request because i felt fantastic and wanted to get home. Could have stayed until i was ready to leave. Cost= Canadian UHC

Put a note on your door that says "Do Not Disturb" and consider adding "Unless you are bringing food or requested medications". You can refuse any temp or BP check, especially in the middle of the night. Don't be a hero - if you have issues with BP or feel feverish, let them check, but otherwise it isn't worth (literally) losing sleep over. And beware that the nurses may not like this if they are sticklers about filling boxes on their charts. But you can teach them how to write "patient refused".

I would like to add that if you have both nurses and PCA's, they will likely be coming in at different times for different things. RN's for assessments and PCAS's for vitals. If night time vitals and assessment cannot be skipped for medical reasons, this care can be grouped into them coming in together. Otherwise, you may be stuck with literally being woken up every hour by two different people. If there is no medical reason to monitor your vitals or to have an assessment frequently then do not feel guilty about refusing. You need rest.
With DS I was admitted Tues night for an induction. After a day of various induction techniques I had an emergency csection Wed night. I left.... Sunday! I still have no idea why it was so long but I was a FTM and didn't question it.

Gave birth to DD at 6:12am on Saturday morning.
Went home at 10am on Monday morning.
