  Unprofessional and disrespectful. Yes they should lose their licence if the photo includes a patient ( without permission) and/or it's clearly taken during a procedure (or birth) when they should actually be doing their job rather than boasting (?) about their job on social media

  Seriously, i mean seriously... Not okay on so many levels not limited to the dr not giving his full attention to his job, posting a pic of an inmitate moment and the ick factor.
  Hope he gets more than a slap on the hand ans others who would consider the same action take note and don't.

  Read your convents before you sign them at the hospital I work at, it is in the surgical convent that photos may be taken during the surgery. When you consent for the surgery you consent to the possibility of photos... Do I think it is right no. Do I think he should lose his career. No. Do I think he should be placed on an unpaid leave for 3 months yes, so maybe can can learn the value of a human life in its natural setting...

  Wow. So many angles to attack this from. As a doctor who was once a med student delivering thier first babies. As a director for medical students at my hospital dealing with thier often immature behavior and as a pregnant women who highly values her privacy.
  
  Unfortunately not a HIPAA violation unless the woman's name, face, or other identifying mark is in the photo. Secondly can't lose thier license because as a student they don't have one.
  
  However ethically this is deplorable and if the tongue lashing I gave that student wasn't enough to make them wet thier pants and reconsider thier career, then they would fail my rotation and be suspended from medical school for at least a year. That is if they didn't get sued by the patient which I would whole heartedly support.

  At a grocery store an associate can not have their cell phone while on duty.. To me it is worse in the medical field to have cell phones in your pockets while on duty. The punishment should in my opinion be termination and loss of licensing, or one huge fine and a warning to each patient that comes in "this doctor takes selfie while your under anesthesia".

  This is so sad in so many different ways. A lot of the people they reference as having taken "selfies" in operating rooms are students. I guess the younger generation has no sense of when to put the damn phone away!
  
  I would think that whatever school they are studying under would expel them...? Seems like that would be the obvious thing to do since this is so blatantly unprofessional and lacking in good judgement.

  Great insight @strauber. I saw it was a student so I knew they hadn't done their boards yet and couldny lose their license but also wasn't sure of what punitive actions schools and supervising physicians have.

  As a student, he isn't being paid, so taking away pay isn't an option either. As for having phones on them during rounds/work, cell phones have replaced pagers. Unfortunately, phones are a necessary evil. He should definitely be graded on this rotation with his actions in mind.

  This is not the first case, it just finally is being brought to public eye. There are quite a few cases where this happens but the victim gets paid to hush hush.

  It's very disappointing that the younger generation doesn't seem to have much respect for the privacy of others, but demand it for themselves. It can't be both ways.

  @Miz_Liz I don't think I've posted crazy anything! Had there not been a warning about the mucus plug picture I would have opened it... I would have been an angry mama learning about that not by choice. My maternity leave started this week, I don't have any social media so I just check on here all day long to stay busy! So I promise no picture posts!

  No, you are always good about not posting crazy, but I always read the post title before who posted it, and since it doesn't have people's pictures next to it on that side, I often forget to even look at who started the thread.
