Sleep troubles

ive always been prone to nightmares, vivid dreams, and sleep talking. But I've got to say, it's getting ridiculous. I'm walking up in a panic several times a night, thrashing about, and generally sleeping terribly! I've tried drinking chamomile tea, but I'm hopping maybe there are some suggestions on how to get better sleep, are there certain foods that might be triggering it? Or is it just hormonal? Are many others in the same boat?

Re: Sleep troubles

  • Hormones make dreams crazy when you are pregnant. It sucks.
I have the same thing and I just try to relax before bed and have a nighttime routine.
Sometimes there's not much you can do and you just have to ride it out.

  • Me too, unisom helps a lot.
  • I second this! ^
Even just a half when I'm anxious or having trouble sleeping this helps so much
  • I would be miserable without my unisom. I know we'd all prefer a more natural fix, but I haven't found one yet. My dr approves of it. The alternative is to lose sleep which can be very detrimental to you health and safety ( driving tired is dangerous).
  • I've had some restless nights as well. Thanks for the tip on the unisom ladies!
  • I know that if I drink apple juice right before bed (big craving) my dreams will be out of control and feel real. I don't know if it's the sugar or what, but I've had some crazy ones after the juice.

@willashbaby may I ask what unisom is?
  • I should add that it's unisom sleep tabs. There are a few varieties that have different active ingredients and the tabs are the approved ones. I want to say it's doxycyclomine? It's ths same stuff my dr recommended for morning sickness.

Never mind, I googled it, I'm not sure I've heard of it, though it seems we have it in Australia, I might ask my doctor about it as at this point I'm quite happy to try it!
  • Essential oils calm me. Inexpensive at most health/organic food stores. I loooove eucalyptus. A few drops on a Kleenex near me and I calm instantly. Makes for much better sleep. It's hard not to get anxious about dreams before bed when you've experienced such vivid ones.
  • @Paige6410 there's actual a chemical compound in apple juice that gives you vivid dreams. Forgot where I originally heard this but just did a quick google search
  • Be sure to get the doxylamine unisom, not the diphenhydramine. Doxylamine is more sedating. I usually only need half of a tablet to notice a much deeper sleep. Even when I have to get up to pee, I usually fall back to sleep right away. A whole tablet makes me feel like a total zombie in the am though.

  • I haven't slept right since I was pregnant. I've been refusing to take Unisom thus far but I think I'm going to take some this weekend and try to sleep in a little. Other tips: don't look at your phone close to bedtime, don't watch tv, instead try reading a book. Cut off your water consumption an hour or two before bed so you don't have to pee too much. Can't think of anything else! We just bought a new matress (The Casper) to help with our sleep issues...should be here next week!

Try the unisom it's great! And I'm trying to talk DH into a new bed. I'm dying on our mattress. I want a sleep number bed
  • @Snoopylovesbelle We got a new mattress a few months ago. We were going back and forth between sleep number and tempurpedic. After much research, we decided to go with tempurpedic, and we are both IN LOVE with it. I have never slept so well in m y entire life. We have a king bed, so, it was quite expensive, but, it was worth every penny!
