Baby Boy

Well ladies, it's been a while since I more or less took my leave from The Bump, but I certainly enjoyed getting to know you ladies, so I thought I'd share. Today at 3:09 pm my sweet boy Arlo Stephen was born. He was 31 weeks and 1 day, but was still 4 pounds (would've been a big kiddo at term!) and 17 1/2 inches long. I had been feeling weird for a couple days - lower abdominal pain/discomfort mostly - and today the pain started to become very regular. I began timing myself around 10 am and found that about every six minutes the pain became bad for about a minute. Things weren't too consistent so I decided to take a quick bath and then call my midwife. After my bath (so soothing during labor, by the way. Whether home or hospital, labor in a tub if you can!), I urinated and found pale red/pink blood on the tissue upon wiping. I called the hospital just before noon and told them I figured I'd head in and be seen and that I was very concerned, and I of course told them everything that was going on. Well, they weren't concerned apparently and said that my midwife would be in at one, and I could just come in then. I called them on my way just before 1 and told them things had escalated and that I was bleeding more. I got to the L and D floor at about 1:15...at 8 cm :O So crazy. I arguably should have advocated for it more, but either way, they more than likely couldn't have done anything to stop the labor. Plus, as a FTM, I didn't know what was going on and figured if they weren't worried, I'd try not to worry. Unfortunately labor isn't always as blatantly obviously labor as things portray it being. Less than two hours and about 4 pushes later my sweet boy was here. He has a CPAP for pressure only and is no longer getting additional oxygen. He's beautiful and doing so well. I'm in love.
