I got mine last year when I fell off an 8 foot ladder. I had lacerations in my legs, two sprained ankles, two sprained wrists, and we counted 14 big bruises all over my body and I swear my arm hurt worse from that tetanus shot than anything else!
But the pain medication that they gave me might have helped with the other stuff. It's worth it for your baby though!
I just got my TDAP shot this past Friday and it was just a little sore for a couple day and the glucose drink wasn't as bad as I thought. I also gulped it down within a few sec so it wasn't as bad.
When I got my tdap shot I had a terrible allergic reaction! I hit the floor as soon as the nurse pushed into my skin and spent the night in the ER in trembles. so thankful you ladies didn't have horrible reactions with it.
Ohh I had mine a few years ago. Getting my blood taken for my GD test was TERRIBLE though. My ob doesn't do blood work at their office so they send you to a lab to get it done. The nurse I got was very heavy set and used all her weight to push up against the needle in my arm to keep it in while doing other things. Almost my entire arm was bruised by the time she was finished! She was also very rude the entire time she was doing it. Sorry I know this isn't what the post was about but ugh the frustrations! Lol
@Knottie59387608 maybe we went to the same lab haha I had a woman do that during my 3hr test and at one point began explaining that we wouldn't have to go through these long tests if we didn't give in to all of our cravings. Hahahaha! I decided she was uneducated.
Just a little tip for intramuscular shots: massaging them afterward really cuts down on the soreness. I know tetanus is one of the worst, but for flu shots and such, it really, really helps!

I have not heard about any of this. I've heard of TDAP, but had no idea what it was. My doctors don't seem to tell me about things too far in advance. My 28 week appt is in about 3 weeks. I'm supposed to do blood work then (I'm doing diabetes testing instead of glucose test). I'd love more info on what to expect at the next few appts.
Tetanus shots are terrible... I'm more worried about the Rh shot, though. I have NO idea what to anticipate from that sucker.
I had one already, and it really wasn't that bad, I swear! And I have a huuuuuge needle phobia. They put it in my butt (haha, very funny) – but really they did, and I think that's what made it not so bad. I didn't even see the needle, but I did feel the liquid trickling into my body, kind of like when you get a flu shot.
I'm actually super scared of this tetanus shot now...did your doctors tell you all that you needed it? My doctor hasn't even mentioned it.
My doctor didn't mention it either and they don't even do it in my obgyn office, I have to go to my primary care. I asked her about it last week when I was 27 weeks and she told me I should make an appointment to get it done.
I got it and some other shots about a year ago as part of my medical exam in order to obtain my visa. Didnt really hurt at all.. Just keep your arm moving to spread the stuff out quicker and it wont even be sore for long.
Do you get the TDAP shot from your OB or your reg doctor? I definitely need to get mine and god knows I am behind on these things because I never thought about them before I got pregnant.
Ugh thanks a lot guys! I just had my tdap about an hour ago and I was already sore. I'm sure my brain will convince me that it hurts way more now! The only problem I had with my glucose test was the drink was just a couple of degrees below room temperature. If it had been colder I wouldn't have minded at all.
@crbpjb I happened to ask my doctor about it at my last appointment (we had a thread about it that morning so it was on my mind) but she would have brought it up at my 28 week appointment today.
@adriennerose80 mine was at my ob but it probably depends on your office.
I feel doubly attacked today! Got my shot in my left arm then they took blood from my right....I'm sure I looked questionable at Starbucks with a band aid on one arm and the cotton swab and gauze on the other from my blood draw. Had to get a frap in before I get my results this afternoon for glucose just in case!
I had one two years ago when my first child was born. While I think the booster is usually suggested every 5? years my OB said I should get again while pregnant this time for protection to pass to baby. Have it in my calendar to verify that again at my appt in two weeks and also get the shot. My OB office now offers it so I can get it there. It is recommended to receive between 27-36 weeks. If you don't get it while pregnant you should be able get it in hospital after baby is born, too.
@dchiapella & @aldermanbaby I got my Rh shot the same day in my right arm and nothing...no pain... but the tdap in my left arm and it hurts to lift my arm above my head:(
@dchiapella@aldermanbaby I had my rh shot last week (in the butt cheek!) and it was not bad at all! Quick shot, no tenderness after. The tdap was worse (mild soreness the next day).

My OB does not do them in office. She wrote me a Rx to go to a pharmacist. Walgreen's and CVS pharmacy both do them. No appointment necessary. She said I could go to my general practitioner, but it would take me a couple weeks to get an appointment with her.

My next appt is on Monday. Thanks for the heads up bc I almost forgot about it!

I'm about to ask a really stupid question....
