What protein powders are safe?

Hello everyone! Im 15 weeks and just a couple weeks ago developed an aversion to basically all meats... Just the sight makes me want to puke! I'm nervous that I'm lacking protein that me and baby need... I've been eating a lot of yogurt but still don't feel like that's enough. I was thinking about getting a protein powder and just putting it in a smoothie every morning... Can anyone recommend any good and safe protein powders?

Plant based with no additives is a good option.

I'm a half-assed Arbonne consultant (ie I just do it for the 35% discount) who HATES protein powders, but I actually like ours. The protein comes from peas and cranberries, so it's entirely plant-based.

Edit: Also vegan, gluten free, etc etc.

  • @vvitchhazel you have ARBONNE!? I want some freaking make up primer! And if you promise not to tell my mom I'll take some night cream.

My mom left Arbonne when Candace Keefe split and now does Bioceutica.
  • I drink shakeology every morning

    SO and I met 6/25/06

    Married 9/2/12

Due date 1/16/16 with our twins!
  • I can pretty much only eat ground beef.. no chicken. I try to get my protein from Greek yogurt, nuts, etc. But on extra bad days I do arbonne protein and I feel good about that. I prefer shakeology when I can afford it.

I just asked my dr about protein powder yesterday! I used to drink gnc lean shake 25 before pregnancy and showed her the ingredients/nutrition label and she says it's perfectly fine to stick with it throughout. I'm a vegetarian, and she could not stress enough how important proper protein intake is for me and the baby right now!

Yes! I'm an Arbonne junkie! Which is why I became a consultant... 35% off!

  • This is what I use: https://www.jayrobb.com/default.asp
You can order the sample packets and try the different flavors before you order a larger bag. Also GNC started selling this line recently.

  • Protein powder is definitely a good option and it looks like you are getting some great advice. There are other good sources of protein that you can include in your diet too such as seeds, nuts, beans, eggs (if you can tolerate them still), and cheese. I have been putting chia seeds and hemp seeds in my smoothies or in my yogurt. Edamame beans (soy) are a great snack and source of protein, I like to sauté them in a fry pan with garlic and other spices.

  • I use isagenix! All natural products. I even had my doctor take a look at it and she had no problems with me using it! I add fruit and peanut butter to mine, but it's still good plain!

@keshakdavis @Leah6120 Have you guys asked your doctors about shakeology? I used to drink it everyday but have read stuff about 'overdosing' on vitamin a and others. Beachbody says it's okay during pregnancy but of course they are going to say that. I was just curious if you guys had shown your doctor the ingredients and if they said anything? I forgot to bring mine last appointment and would really love to start having it again.

@cawalp The Vitamin A in shakeology is beta carotene, not Retinyl Palmitate. Beta carotene is not toxic and actually a pre-cursor to vitamin A, so your body will only convert what it needs. Synthetic vitamin A sources (Retinyl, Retinyl palmitate, etc.) are the ones you need to watch out for. Your OB will tell you the same thing.

That being said, if you're drinking shakeology, you probably should not be combining it with prenatals.
  • I also love Arbonne EVERything! Love the vanilla protein powder in my fruit smoothies :-).
  • I just posted a thread recently about my aversion to meet and worries that I'm not getting enough protein too! I so hear you. I got some ideas there that I wasn't thinking of, but I've also decided to start having a shake every day too.

I ordered an organic plant-based protein...the brand is Orgain.
