haven't we been through this already and warned against this type of thing early due to stranger danger AND it basically ruining the forum before it even starts.. too lazy to use the search function this early

EXACTLY. It generally NEVER goes over to well to have the same people you meet here all congregated together in a FB group, especially when the crazies come out... It has happened many times in the past.

I'm not saying you shouldn't join it, for all I know, it may be a wonderful group, but use caution, and all that jazz.

Also - for anyone (still) not convinced about 'stranger danger' - look at the "Views" for each thread versus the "Replies". There's a ton of lurkers on these totally public, not in any way restricted, boards, which is fine, but you might want to think twice about posting your personal information so publicly.

I think the FB group is a brilliant idea. The same old trolls are less likely to pipe up when you can see they are just an overweight, spotty geek with no social life.
