Baby won't sleep

Anyone else have a baby that won't sleep? I have twins. One is really good about sleeping in the swing or her rock n play. The other one just screams unless she's being held. I also have an almost 3 year old, so holding her all the time is out of the question. Anyone have advice on how to get her to sleep without being held 24/7? I'm at my wits end. She's been awake since 9:00 this morning. She's super tired, but just screams.

  • Can you wear her in a carrier?

  • She doesn't like that either.

  • I have a friend that is into the essential oils. She gave me a mix of lavender and olive oil. I rub a little on my chest while I am rocking LO to sleep and it helps to relax him when he's extra fussy. She also recommended giving him a little foot massage with it to help calm him if just smelling it doesn't work. Works like a charm for us! Of course, check with your doctor before using anything like that on your LO!
  • ^^^^ this is a good idea. I have these oils for my headaches. I'm going to give that a try.
  • I always try the 5's I lay lo on her side until she falls asleep then shift her on her back. Works really well.
  • Thanks ladies! I'll give them all a try!

  • Just an FYI, lavender oil is an endocrine disrupter. I wouldn't apply it where LO would contact it. Personally, I wouldn't use it around LO at all, but that's just me.

  • I agree @queequeg09256. 5 S's have been helpful for us. Swaddle+ shhhhing (white noise)+ swinging in the rock n play work wonders for my LO. GL!

Mine gets super tired and then so worked up because he is so tired. Then he cannot fall asleep. The sound of water from a faucet is amazing and calms him in seconds. I got tired of standing in the bathroom plus when I moved away he would get upset again so I downloaded an app on my phone called rain, rain. It has the sound of a faucet going. I either leave it on near him or I can use other things on my phone while the app and sound are going. It is amazing. I just told my husband he better get it because he is in trouble if I am ever not home.
  • I agree on being careful with oils when they are tiny. I love them but they are pretty potent, even the mild lavender. One time I overdid it (with vapors) Had like a two day allergic reaction. Super congested. People at work thought I was sick
  • 5 S's here too. We downloaded a white noise app, works like a charm (even when she's fussy in the car). Our LO likes to be held like we're burping her (over the shoulder) instead of on her side. She doesn't really like the swing either so we move from side-to-side or rock.
    Good luck!
  • Sleeps like a charm during the day...screams like a banshee all night. Little darling who loves me during the day...angry baby who hates me at night - fights me with everything and then spits up most of his meal. I figured out earlier that he gets pissed when we put him in the crib...so I held him and leveled him out with the crib - he likes the incline of being held...hubby propped up the crib at a slight incline (we have a wedge mattress prop but it is too big for the mini crib we are currently using but it will be nice when we transition to a regular crib.
  • Swing and turn on vacuum? My little guy gets so relaxed by the vacuum, so I take a really long time getting some good detailed cleaning in so its a win win
