Depressed about stretch marks

You know...its seriously not fair that some people get stretch marks and others don't. I'm one of the unlucky ones that got stretch marks on my belly. I already had some on my sides and legs from gaining weight way before pregnancy but never on my belly!! I am so determined to lose all of the baby weight and more to hopefully be able to wear a bikini again someday, but now I have these ugly stetch marks. Even if I do get thin again, I won't look good in a bikini. I know this sounds really stupid that I'm complaining about stretch marks when I have a beautiful baby growing inside me...trust me I already love her and wouldn't trade being pregnant with her for anything...I just wish I could have been one of the lucky un stretch mark women :( just curious, who else has gotten stretch marks and who hasn't (yet)?

Re: Depressed about stretch marks

  • I got a few on the front of my belly in the past two weeks :/ I thought for sure I was going to make it out of this thing with no marks!

  • I've gotten stretch marks after trying to prevent them with every natural remedy there is. I was disappointed just because of all of the effort I put into not getting them, but it's just genetics and getting them was completely out of my control. I have had them previously on my butt and upper thighs and I'm sure the ones on my belly and boobs will fade over time so I'm trying to not let them get me down.
Maybe it's the end of pregnancy that has me so upset over my physical appearance, but once our babies are here they will be all we think about. Even if the stretch marks don't physically fade away I don't think we will mind them too much. :)

If you want to invest in mederima (spelling?) stretch mark cream to help them fade that may work for you. (But it's pricey).
  • This is my second baby and it is so much worse. I never got them anywhere but my stomach last time and now I have them everywhere, even on my calves, WTF?!? And I'm not overweight either. It depressed me at first too. I follow takingbackpostpartum on Instagram and that has really helped me get past some of my issues. They also have a Facebook. I recommend checking them out.

  • I was hoping I'd be one of the lucky ones who didn't get stretch marks but that's not the case. I have them on my belly and since I had my daughter they seem to have gotten worse. I was really upset about them at first but I just try to remind myself that's part of pregnancy and they should fade. But I understand how you're feeling!
  • I had the same feelings when i was pregnant the first time. Both of my grandmother's never got any at all and one had 4 kids and the other had 9 but my mom got them with all 3 of her kids so i was really hoping I'd take after my grandma's but nope. I tried everything the say is supposed to help and didn't get any until 7 months by which point i had thought i was going to be lucky. I'm getting even more with this pregnancy, which I didn't think was possible. But I'm telling you every mark, every extra pound is more than worth it the second you lay eyes on your beautiful baby for the first time.
  • It's never really bothered me. I've always known it was apart of pregnancy. I will say I've barely gotten any this pregnancy (most came from DS) however the ones I did get lightened up so much I didn't even notice them after pregnancy.

  • I never got stretch marks either pregnancy, but I got a herniated belly button from my daughter instead... I'm not sure which one I'd rather have :/ I get embarrassed in normal t-shirts... I also just got some weird petechaie (broken capillaries) rash below my belly button that my doctor is stumped by. Since its localized (like a 2 inch diameter circle of it) and itchy, she thinks its likely just from stretching (though she is running labs to check a few other things). But I'm going to have that for who knows how long. I have a broken capillary on my hand that has been there since November... :P We all have our things from pregnancy that we would rather not, but it definitely is worth it.
  • Thanks everyone...I feel a little better. It's nice to know I'm not the only one who has them!! All my pregnant friends are the lucky ones who don't have any!
  • Before anybody says they hate me: NO, I didn't get any stretch marks, other than tiny ones on my boobs. But I got what I personally feel is worse, which is HORRID blue and purple spider veins all up and down my legs =/
They don't fade either. Got them with DD, now they are a billion times bigger, darker, and worse with this LO.

I got them all over during my first pregnancy in 2007, and did not get them at all during my last two pregnancies. So there is a silver lining, but the originals are still there, albeit way faded.

I am not that sad about not being in a bikini, I'm more concerned about my shape and if I have to do a tankini or one piece then so be it (which is how I've done it since having kids). I still feel okay and the majority of moms are in those types of suits anyway. However, if a mom rocks a bikini with her marks or a little tummy wrinkling I always think "you go on wth your bad self!" It's about what makes you comfy. Some women with no stretch marks have cellulite or something else that makes them unhappy, so we are ALL self-conscious together. :)

    Truth.
  • Eek! I'm so nervous about stretch marks popping up any time now, I was just checking myself for them before seeing this thread. None so far, but I'm really bracing myself for them any day as I'm just 34 weeks and 2 days. I hate the ones on my inner thighs from puberty so much!
  • I get it. I was super bummed when I got them with DD2 (after not getting a single one with DS and DD1.) It's one of those things that it is what it is. I've chosen to embrace them. Do I sometimes feel awkward when I first take my tank top off at the beach? Sure, but honestly, those stretch marks are there because I've created little miracles. What's more beautiful then that?
  • I don't see any as of yet. 38 weeks here, however, I'm sure I'll notice them after birth?? Talking about white squiggly ones I assume. I've had a few of those on my butt and thighs since early puberty but no dark ones.
  • I have a horrible amount on my butt and thighs that started popping up a few weeks ago. I also have some that appeared on my boobs during the first tri which have already faded in color significantly. That gives me hope! None on my belly so far which totally baffles me, buuut there's plenty of time for them to rear their ugly little faces.
  • The only place i don't have stretch marks is my face and arms everywhere else is COVERED n I really mean nearly every inch of me has a stretch mark on it no idea why I'm still tiny I'm very upset about it but my
Boyfriend said I'm even more beautiful and he loves me so much more for putting my body through this to bring him the most precious gift ever
  • I got a few of them on the sides of my hips and my lower belly last time... At 37 weeks. I was like "are you kidding me!" And then my son was born at 38 weeks. I will say that they were faded to white in less then a year. I just used that vitamin oil they sell at cvs. This time I have not gotten any new ones.... Yet. I'm sure they will pop up at 39 weeks lol

  • I have stretch marks on my tummy, hips, and thighs! They will fade and look better with time. Unfortunately, they will never completely disappear. There are laser treatments and such that are also options that I might consider. They won't magically disappear but it will help.
  • I don't get any, ever. Not with my first or second.
  • So many stretch marks, so little non stretch marked skin... It is what it is @-)

@emmacake08 You look amazing after twins! Mine are so much worse. My other kids didn't even have room to give me anymore lol.
  • I got mine from my first pregnancy back in 07 and the ones on my inner thighs were just added to the collection. You know, we only live once. Stretch marks mean no harm to us or our health, so why not and EMBRACE them?! We cannot live the rest our lives hating our body's bc of them. I actually look up to any woman that have the courage to put on a bikini and not give a crap what people think. These tiger stripes are very well deserved.. Don't sweat it. This too shall pass...:)
  • I've seen some girl who has them extremely bad on her stomach , sides , thighs and they are really bad like I can't even begin to explain and she's proud of what her body is capable of doing , she still wears a bikini and doesn't care what anyone says or thinks because it's true her body did an amazing thing .
I'm personally that person who can't stand stretch marks and would do anything to get rid of them or minimize the look , like when I went through puberty for example my Jesus I have them all on my butt, between my thighs and on my calfs! (Which are now somewhat in a way fading years and years later) And I was really self conscious about them for a while but now being older I don't care about them , it's just skin. I'm eventually going to get all old and wrinkly anyways . Being pregnant I don't really have any thank god but I'm pretty sure it's because I'm tiny . But I do have 2 really bad ones on each side of my hips and one on each tattoo that I have but my tattoos disguise them but I honestly don't care anymore. My SO doesn't mind them , nor do they affect the way he looks or thinks of me and I still love my body . Especially with everything it's doing right now to create my child . <3
And this is coming from someone whos in there early 20s.
  • Just got them this week (37). I was bummed at first too. Im coming around to accept them, and that my body will never be the same in a lot of ways. They may fade, or they won't, and I'll feel comfortable in a bikini again one way or the other.

Eh. I hear ya. I had a "big" year about 8 years ago and developed some on my tummy and finally got somewhat used to them as they had faded somewhat over the years. I was beginning to get optimistic that I wouldn't get anymore during pregnancy since I seemed to have dodged the bullet up until now but alas, I discovered one sneaking up down low in one of the few places I don't have any. BOOO! Such is life. They will fade.
  • I didn't get them until right at the end! Oh well! Baby is so worth them!! But if anyone has any miracle fixes- let me know! :)
  • So far none on the belly here, but def have some on my boobs :( baby girl has iugr which has meant a smaller belly for me too, so another way to look at it is to be thankful your baby is growing at a healthy rate.
  • I don't blame you for not liking them, and for not embracing them yet! They are a major drag!!!
  • I got them worse than I thought I would:/
