Ok ladies! My husband family is planning a trip to Disney next year. My baby will be 5-6 months old. I dont know if its a good idea to go. My in laws wants to drive all the way over there. I believe is a two day drive:/

Has anynody gone to Disney with a baby?

Re: Disney and Baby!

  • No, but I saw a lot of them there.

  • So I guess is not that bad?
  • Depends on your perspective. I wouldn't want to take a baby, but I'm not a huge Disneyland/world fan.
  • I wouldn't take a baby to Disney. That sounds like my personal version of hell. But it might not be bad if you have helpful family. I would fly, though, even if it's just you and the baby there and back.

  • I don't know if you tried searching on Google, but there are a ton of great resources there!! Several relevant articles and also I saw personal accounts from bloggers. Best of luck!
  • I've never done it myself (FTM) but I'm a Disney FREAK and have researched this just in case I'd ever need the knowledge in the future ;)

It's definitely going to be a pain, but totally doable. You just need to be okay with sitting around for a long time while your in-laws go on rides, or they need to be okay with taking shifts watching baby while you wait in line and go on the rides too. I can't remember what the pass is actually called, but they also have basically a parent pass that allows for people to alternate going on the rides, and then the person sitting out can go through the fast-pass or single rider lines and not have to wait as long. I'm not sure if they still do this with the new wristband tickets, but this is how it worked a few years ago.

Search the Disney website, because they'll have the most up to date information. I do know for certain they have breast feeding rooms, stroller rentals, changing tables, etc. Look on Disney blogs too, you'll get a lot of firsthand experience. Wish I was going with you!!
  • I need to check on that parent pass! Thank you so much for this info:D
  • Lurker here:

H and I have gone to Disney a couple of times. We have agreed that we will not be taking any children until they are able to walk mor or less a day (with breaks) by themselves. I'm pretty sure parking a stroller and then getting it back out of the mess of strollers is a punishment in one of the circles of hell.
  • You can always find ways to enjoy yourself without spending all day at the parks (which is not possible with a 6 month old imo). My bigger concern would be the car ride. If I read your post correctly you'd be spending 2 days in a car with an infant. I think you might regret the trip before you even made it to Disney. I agree with @SummerOH about flying instead.
  • I know people of both persuasions, but personally I'm not going to spend the kind of money Disney requires just to spend ½ my time following a baby schedule. You have AM and PM naps to consider, and I've seen what happens to the poor kids whose parents don't adhere to their normal schedule; they're all hysterical by 10AM, and what fun is that? I do have a friend who takes her 2yo and 8mo twice a year, and they as a family love it. It's all about what you're willing to put up with and what you want from a Disney Vacay. Good luck!

  • I wouldn't take my baby anywhere that large until they had all of their basic and necessary vaccines.
  • I just googled and that pass is called a Rider Switch/Child Swap pass. Again, I'm not sure on how accurate this is now with the new wristbands, because all the info I briefly checked was from a few years ago. Always worth checking into though!
  • The car ride would probably get to be brutal unless you made a million stops and could sit in back to occupy the baby when he/she was awake.
I would suggest walking with the baby in a carrier most of the time, but for the time of year you would be going, it could get painfully hot.
If you really just want the vacation, you could always skip the park, or go for a half day, then just hang out with the baby at the hotel, a beach, ect. There are a lot of good tip/blog links on Pinterest if you search Disney vacations.
  • My sister went with my nephew when he was 4 months old. She just couldn't go on the rides with her husband so they mostly shopped around and went to the shows during the day. In the evening her in-laws watched him so they could have some alone time.
  • I am not too far from Disney and have done the parks tons of times with babies and toddlers. I say go! It is actually pretty easy with a 5-6 month old since they will still nap pretty well in the stroller. It's when they get a bit older that it is more of an issue and we usually leave the park mid day for naps then.

Plus a lot of the rides at Disney allow for lap riders so as long as LO can sit up on your lap with his head up, which should happen by 5mo, they can ride too. And the rides they can't go on, you can child swap, everybody waits in line then at the front of the line one person takes the baby to a room for child swap and everyone else rides. Then after the ride someone else sits in the room with the baby and everyone else gets to go again. No special pass is needed, you just tell them you are doing child swap. The only problem is they have to be out of the stroller to go through the line so it doesn't work so well if they are napping.

Disney is really baby friendly, they have rooms all over the park with rockers you can go to nurse. There are changing tables in those rooms too. And they let you bring any food or formula in to the park for babies as well.
  • I need to check on that parent pass! Thank you so much for this info:D
It's called ride swap.  A lot of times people will wait in line and then have a cast member let you know at a particular exit or whatever that you can swap out people, so you can have an opportunity to ride.  I am not sure if all rides have this.  I know the Rock n Roller Coaster does at Hollywood Studios. I see people use it all the time.

We went when my son was 8mos. I was going for a conference but my parents tagged along, my mom had a business trip she needed to be down there for that was flexible so she scheduled it for the same time.

I'll try not to cover what pp mentioned! DS didn't spend too much time in the park, mostly at the pool with my parents. When he was at the park I either wore him in a baby carrier or a stroller, make sure you get one with good ventilation! We brought the Chicco Liteweight (I think that's what it's called) I liked that when it's reclined all the way you can unzip the back so he had a breeze. I also purchased a sun blanket it looks like a blanket with ties but made out of material with SPF and the lightweight feel of a button up shirt. It also has ties so you can tie it to your carrier, infant car seat, or stroller to keep them covered but it's nice and lightweight! Here's the link: https://rainorshinekids.com/product-category/sun-gear/

DS was really good about sleeping on the go so that was helpful. I agree with pp that flying would be your better option, a two day drive with an infant doesn't sound too fun, but it could go great!

  • My son was 8 months when we flew from WA to fl for a weeklong Disneyworld vacation with my family. He had a blast, loved the lights at night, did some kiddy rides on our lap, ate pieces of a churro and did the cute first haircut experience at the barbershop. Totally worth it and would do it again.

  • I'd take a baby to Disney. Of course you miss out on riding the big rides as a family, but that's the case for a few years. We go about once a year to Disneyland. I'd say if it's a once-in-a-long-time trip, I'd probably wait though. We're going in September when I'm 18 weeks...a little bummed about missing my favorite rides, but I'm looking forward to focusing on some other parts of the park I usually overlook. It'll be a more laid back pace for me, which might be nice. Hopefully sweets sound good at that point because they have the best beignets :)
