Babysitter vent!!

Im so annoyed and need To vent!! My husband and I live across the country from both of our families. We have a few friends but we are pretty much on our own. Lo is 8 weeks and I'm a ftm. I go back to teaching in 4 weeks and the babysitter canceled on me!!!!! What the heck!! I do have a backup who will be great if she says yes, but it also adds 20 to 25 min on my drive making the total drive over an hour. We just don't want to put our lo in daycare this young plus none of them open early enough!! I'm so mad and feel so vulnerable!

That's terrible :( I will be using an in home nanny/sitter too and I worry about her backing out last minute since we will be paying cash and have no contract or anything
    Hang in there!!!!!

  • I feel your pain! With my first son we had a nanny set up who canceled 2 wks before I went to back to work. We had decided on a nanny (Catherine) but didn't call her to tell her yet when we found out about a Japanese nanny. We wanted someone who spoke Japanese (I'm half) to get have someone teach our son the language. I speak some but not fluent. 2 wks before I returned back to work she backed out. I had to call Catherine and beg her to come work for us. 2 1/2 yrs later she is still with us. Even though it would of been nice to have the other woman it all worked out for the best. My son adores her and we couldn't of asked for anyone better to watch our sons. It is hard to have the added stress just before you have to go back to work. Perhaps the backup situation can just buy you time to find something more convenient. It is easier to change caregivers while they are still young apposed to if you wait till they are older.

  • We had a potential nanny tell us she wasn't legal on her practice day. :/ We have a spot in daycare but I feel the same as you - hesitant to send him at 4 months...
  • We are sending our daughter to daycare at 4 months. We are more comfortable with her being in daycare than a private home.
  • I am very lucky that my backup is a good friends mom. She's amazing, the down side is she's 20 min out of the way making my drive a solid hour. The one who cancelled was next to my work so I could nurse or whatever if needed.

This. Although my little one is there for the first time today (12 weeks). Daycare centers are so highly regulated and there are multiple people there who can keep an eye on each other to make sure your LO is being treated well!
  • The problem with day care is that they all open later than I have to leave. There are no daycare where I work, I don't even pass a gas station on my way to school.
