Too many ultrasounds? Too soon?

Hi ladies!
I'm 5 weeks pregnant, first time and I need your advice. I had my very first ultrasound done last week as I was worried of ectopic pregnancy risk. (no symptoms but I had a bad peritonitis a few years ago). Turned out that everything is fine so I'm very happy.

Now had a follow-up appointement with my GP today and she wants to send me for another ultrasound next week so we can check the heartbeat and I wonder if this is too much and too early? I think I'd rather wait until i'm 9 weeks so i can see more?

What do you think?

Thanks for your inputs!

  • I actually had an ultrasound at six weeks (previous pregnancy loss) and we were able to see the gestational sac, fetal pole, and yolk sac. We saw the flicker of the baby's heartbeat, too. You can't always see a lot at six weeks but it is possible.

  • Personally I'd wait til at least 7 weeks because if you don't see a heart beat they'll send you for another one at seven weeks anyways and you'll spend the whole week freaking out when really you could just be a few days earlier than you thought and the baby's great just isn't beating yet. Good luck with whatever you decide!
  • I'm 7 weeks tomorrow and have had 2 already, I'm still nursing my son so my periods are way off. First one didn't see anything which was scary, 2nd one we saw the sack! I would of preferred to wait to get them done, when you don't see everything you were hoping for its kinda unsettling.
  • At my 4w we saw the gestitional and yolk sac and we were so happy this Thursday we will visit the doc again to see the embryo and hear the heartbeat now I am 5w 3d so sooner is the better to catch something nice:) don't freak out if you don't see anything till 7w that's alright. I use vaginal ultrasound and it can detect things 6-7 days earlier. So it's up to you:)
  • Thank you for all the advice!!
