Gas, Gas, And More Gas....

Hi Mommies,

Am a newbie, my darling son is 8 weeks..he still isn't sleeping through the night.i get 2hrs of sleep only!  He is constantly farting...It wakes him up at night. I have tried everything!  Grip water, excercises to remove the gas, , my diet...nothing.

Am exclusively breastfeeding..Any advice? Am at my wits end...

From a very exhausted, sleepy, double bagged eye mommy!

It's good that he's farting, my lo would just scream and not sleep till 9-10 in the morning!

I don't have any good advise but they tend to handle it better ad they grow so you might have to wait it out.

Does he poop regularly? DD usually feels better if she poops so if he doesn't maybe you should try treating that

  • Sorry I don't have advice but wanted to say I'm in the same boat... My boy only sleeps 2-3 hour stretches at night and sometimes wakes every hour! Daytime naps are no better, he only cat naps for 20-30mins at a time! It must be gas related as he wakes up crying and farting, even though I wind him before I put him down. I'm so tired and so frustrated. Nothing I have tried is working.
  • My son gets gas to primary at night. Before I feed him I give him little remedys gas drops and he does good. If I forget he is fussy
  • have you tried incorporating probiotics into your diet? Babies don't have much of the food bacteria in their gut, so taking a supplement or eating activia yogurt might help. Just a thought! I was thinking by doing that it would backfire but my chiropractor said it was good I was taking the probiotic. I know around 7 weeks he grunted and moaned and his face got bright red. I guess that is the time of development that they learn how to poop. At least your LO is farting- it shows his system is working at least! Sorry I couldn't be of more help, my little guy is 2 months today and he farts and poops a lot too (I'm EBF).
  • * good bacteria. lol not food
  • Another thought- if he cries or sucks hard and takes in a lot of air that could be a culprit too
  • I have tried probiotics before, but only for a few weeks, I must get more. Lately he has been biting my nipple with his gums during feeding, it's so bloody sore!!
  • You poor mama :( so sorry about the sleep and nipple pain!! Could he be teething already?
  • Is he getting good burps after feeding? Also, it could be a milk protein sensitivity. Have you tried eliminating dairy? Just some thoughts. I hope it gets better!!
  • We are in the same boat except ours is in the morning! The more up right I have him the less he has. We also hold him straight up for 10-15 after feeding and do gas massage after feedings.. It's getting better
  • My doc said to remove these items from your diet in this order

    Gassy foods broccoli beans etc.
    Spicey foods
    Milk
    Eggs
    Wheat

I haven't been able to get past milk... It helped a little.
  • I think he is teething coz he is sucking hard all day long on anything he can get into his mouth and also drooling a little, he is also having explosive poops! I can't feel any bumps on his gums though... I have not eliminated foods or dairy.. I think I will have to try that.
  • I haven't used it but maybe check out the Frida Windi??
