2nd Trimester

Worried new mum 2 b

hello everyone, I'm Becky from London and I'm expecting my first! I'm a little worried as I still haven't been given a midwife as suck and my pregnancy symptoms don't seem to be as bad as what others are. I've not had any sickness and my boobs don't really feel or look that much different. I'm 11 weeks tomorrow and have my 12 week scan booked next week. Just wondering if anyone else has ever experienced the same??

Re: Worried new mum 2 b

  • Hi, I'm from the UK aswell. I didn't have my first midwife appointment until 16 weeks. I was told to book that myself with my doctors surgery after my 12 week scan. I was given a named midwife at my booking appointment but I didn't actually meet her til my 25 week scan and saw a different community midwife instead at my 16 week appointment. It didn't really matter though cos all that happens at the appointments is testing your wee, taking your blood pressure and then they will chat about stuff like whether you want the flu shot etc. The best bit though is you get to hear baby's heartbeat!! Have you been given your maternity notes yet? There is a page in them that tells you when all your midwife appointments should be. Keep an eye on that cos I've had to book all mine myself. Make sure you ask your midwife about NHS antenatal classes sooner rather than later as they can get booked up pretty quickly. I left it too late so I now have to travel out of my local area to attend. In terms of symptoms, everyone is different so I wouldn't worry. I had awful nausea for about 20 weeks but was never actually sick. Some lucky ladies don't get any sickness or nausea, for some it comes later in pregnancy. Just be thankful you are a lucky one at the minute. My boobs didn't get sore, I had one itchy nipple for a few weeks round about week 14 which was odd but that's gone aswell now and I'm still in the same bras before I got pregnant so no bigger boobs for me yet either. Try and relax and enjoy your 12 week scan, it's the most amazing feeling in the world seeing your LO for the first time.

    Sorry for the ramble!

  • I had terrible sickness for 9 months, morning, noon and night with my first son, now with this boy I have absolutely no sickness (: ! Every pregnancy is different !
  • It's fine to not have many symptoms. Some will even come and go throughout pregnancy and it's all normal; every pregnancy is different. I'm 21 weeks and still have had very few symptoms. Baby is completely healthy; symptoms are no indicator of how well the baby is doing so there's really no need to worry.
