feel free to flame me... vent/feeling emotional

I'm feeling like such a bad mom... I got severely sunburnt on my legs on Thursday and my legs have been swollen since then. I went to the ER Saturday because I've never had swelling from a sunburn or a sunburn that made walking painful, they checked for blood clots luckily there weren't any all my labs came back good and no protein in my urine so swelling was most likely due to sunburn. Dr prescribed me NORCO for the pain which I am taking but I'm so nervous about it. I feel like a bad mom because I can't really walk due to the pain and so I'm not drinking as much water as I should because I can't get up to pee and my two other kids are having to keep themselves occupied. My boyfriend is trying his best to help but I hate having people help me. Anyone else ever take Norco while pregnant?

  • I'm not sure why you would get flamed for being in pain.. I would however suggest you are still getting plenty of fluids because getting dehydrated will just make you feel worse. I don't know anything about norco but if you're in that much pain I would probably take it.
  • I actually told someone the other day...the scariest thing to me is being sunburnt and in labor.....so I'm trying to be super cautious about sunscreen and the times I'm outdoors.  I would definitely recommend it though--I am super fair skinned and honestly, you'll just stay miserable longer if you don't treat it :(

  • Staying hydrated will help with the sunburn as well. I know it sucks to get up so much to pee but it'll make things easier on you in the end!
  • I had to have knee surgery about a month ago and I was prescribed Norco for pain. I took it for a few days until I was able to tolerate the pain, but both my OB and my Orthopedic surgeon assured me it would be ok to take for a limited time.

Could you send boyfriend out for a bedpan or a potty chair? I know that seems extreme, but you wouldn't have to walk and could stay as hydrated as needed. :(:(

I haven't been burned since my honeymoon (you should have seen the two of us ending the honeymoon gently smearing aloe on each other :/ )

    Feel better soon.
  • Honestly being in pain is bad for the baby so no need to suffer. It's just short term
  • I know it sucks to have to pee so much, but staying really hydrated is one of the best things you can do for your skin right now. I'd also be cutting open some aloe leaves and laying them all over my skin if I were you. I had a really bad burn (the tan lines from it lasted 2 years) and aloe leaves were the only thing that gave me any relief.
  • I'm sorry you're sun burned. I can't stand the heat long enough to even get a tan this summer it seems. I had to have 2 wisdom teeth removed a few months ago and after checking with my ob Norco is what the dentist gave me. According to my ob it's one of the only safe pain medicines they can give you while pregnant
  • I got a horrific sunburn and sun poisoning on spring break once in college, and it was the most miserable I've ever been. The idea that you're dealing with that and being pregnant at the same time is something I can't even fathom. It just sounds awful! Hope you're feeling better soon!!!
  • They gave me it with my contractions. It only worked for 20 mins so I didn't want anymore of it. Plus with my mom being an addict and me almost becoming one a few years back I try not to lean towards pain meds that make me feel loopy. I think as long as you don't abuse it and your DR and ob say it's ok then you should be fine.
  • Hope you feel better soon! Hang in there. When things are really bad I repeat the mantra "someday this will be a memory"

  • I had to take Tylenol with codeine prior to my tooth abstraction and I took 2 tablets of Norco after this pregnancy.  The Doctor reassured me that being in severe pain is actually more traumatic to your body and babies health than taking a temporary dose of pain medications would be.  I would rather go through labor and delivery than have an abscessed tooth again!

take care of yourself, hydrate, and remember to SUN block!!!

  • They gave me Percocet and a dose of zofran at almost 9 weeks in the ER, as I had a cyst and a SCH. They assured me it was fine. And I was offered narcotics while in labor with my first.. I declined because it takes 30 mins to kick in, and I was due to get an epidural in half an hour lol.

    So I'm assuming it's safe
